This is an undereducated, reductionist take if I’ve ever seen one.

No. OP never gives context, probably doesn’t even know any context since they just mindlessly repost reddit posts.
I can only assume this is about a strike 1889 in Ruhr region coal mines. Workers went on strike in late April, got a raise, went back to work for a few days, went on strike again in early May fighting for a work time reduction down to eight hours per day. As it was usual in those days the strike went down in violence and the following day the military engaged. A week later, 20 men were severely injured, another 15 dead. Originally 45 workers went on strike, soon 90,000 of 104,000 miners in the Ruhr region were striking.
Again, the military and police violently supressing strikes was a thing back then, but this time, the new Emperor of Germany, Willhelm II, decreed the strike was legal and forced the coal barons to agree to (some of) the workers’ demands and even decreed a maximum of eight work hours per day ("Berlin Protocol").Added bonus: since not every coal baron felt the need to adhere, over the years striking became somewhat common with varying results. Many were supressed, some even violently and with bans on public gatherings. In 1891 though workers’ rights were codified into law, state’s oversight expanded, wages raised.
Years later in 1905 though one of the biggest and toughest protests took place. Working hours were to be increased againd and coal mines closed in Bochum (a city in the Ruhr region), so soon 200,000 coal miners went on strike and even coal workers abroad went on strike to show solidarity, 80,000 in Belgium alone, plus France and England. Protests also expanded, in Hamburg harbour and Berlin electric industry workers laid down their work. This all again resulted in codification of demands. - Comment on Modern earth is candy land compared to the planet we had 500+ years ago m’dude 2 weeks ago:
I think a large part of the modern view of the Medieval times being ‘backward’ come from two main sources: 1-propoganda that came during/immediately after the various Crusades/Iberian Reconquista (not to mention the subsequent discovery of the Americas);
Close, but not quite there. The modern image of the Middle Ages mostly does com from propaganda of the Enlightenment period when intellectuals, artists, the upper classes etc wanted to distinguish themselves from what was before, and then some from later periods pushing some things back in time (witch burnings were not a medieval thing and the peak of plate armour was in the 16th century).
I know a german youtuber working on improving our image of the Middle Ages to a more realistic one, if you deal well with automatic subtitles I can recommend Geschichtsfenster.

Why point out the middle ages? Those 1000 years were not worse than any other historic period, be it in antiquity or the early modern era.
Most inventions that make today’s candy land are from the last 50-150 years. Also, this is a very wealthy perspective. Easy access to fresh water, clean plumbing, access to modern medicin, central heating with thermostats, all that good stuff does not exist for large parts of humanity.

Why do you think I don’t care about the quality of a post when that is all I’ve been about so far?
But thanks for the edit, that was very nice.

I don’t know why you make it reddit vs lemmy tbh. I don’t give a flying crap about reddit. I want a nice community with quality content and productive discourse. That is not achieved with mindless postings of everything one find remotely interesting.
You do not need to give a lecture about everything you post. But when everyone’s just guessing what your post refers to and you don’t care to explain, there is no benefit to the community.
- Comment on Not even worth conquering 2 weeks ago:
You obviously have the high quality picture. Why post the mashed pixels instead?

I reject the idea that every meme needs a personal explanation, a lesson, or a long comment thread attached to it. Memes are also casual content. People should be allowed to see something funny, vote, comment if they want, and move on.
I think that in a community that has a special interest, one should be able to explain one’s postings. Because:
If there is a concrete problem with a post, say what it is.
I tried that multiple times. I pointed out mistakes, errors and false information in your memes, but there was literally no reaction. This is the first time I see you reacting to anything.
Calling all frequent sharing “indiscriminate dumping”
That is not what I did though. I said it seems like indiscriminate dumping because you never seemed to bother to engage in discussion, do not deliver context (as it was normal before you started posting), etc. You even copied the title here that doesn’t make sense for this platform. That’s why I call it mindless.
The practical issue is activity. In the latest 24-hour window, this community had 14 posts; I supplied 12 of them.
r/HistoryMemeshad roughly 40 posts in the same window. What is the context of these numbers though? How many different users made these reddit posts, how many members does the reddit sub has compared to this community, how many comments by how many commentors etc?
When I see a community and almost every post is made by the same user, I am turned away, because that does not speak of a healthy community. It looks like the personal platform of an individual.
When I see a special interest community where almost every post is made by the same user, I do not expect to see meaningful exchange about the topic. Had I come here after you became active, I would not have subscribed. And if you do not want to be on reddit, don’t be there.

I don’t think you got my point. I do not care, where a post originates. Memes are made to be shared.
There’s also a difference between indiscriminately dumping everything and selectively sharing content that’s likely to interest the community. I don’t think those are the same thing.
This is what I accuse you of. I don’t think you are making a careful choice of what fits here, what you understand and could explain in context. I do think you more or less indiscriminately dump anything off here.
You also only rarely engage in discussions in the comments, what I would argue is more important to build a community than having all the content in the world.
And in the end, even if you carefully select every meme you share fully intentional, I do think you still post too much. When almost every post in a community is posted by the same user, that is not a good sign. - Comment on This sub needs more Meteorology history memes. 2 weeks ago:
If I meant to say that, I’d say that. I am not here for a reddit clone. I am here for community exchange. I don’t see the point in reposting everything from there mindlessly. Let’s rather build our own community.
There is nothing to say about seeing a meme somewhere and sharing it here. But I think it should be done with intent and the ability to explain the context.
Just taking everything and dump it here, I consider that spam, tbh.

When you copy reddit into here and not give any context to anything, you could at least change the fucking title to be more fitting.
There are no subs on lemmy (except in naval or BDSM comms maybe).

With respect to at least Egypt bear in mind that the areas frequently photographed are the dramatic desert parts
Definitely not only Egypt. The Fertile Crescent from the Levante along the north end of the Syrian Desert all the way through Mesopotamia to the shores of the Persian Gulf was generally very, well, fertile land (as the name suggests).
Unfortunately, Euphrates and Tigris nowadays contain much less water due to climate change and dams built in Turkey, and farming cannot be done reliable in the lower regions anymore.
- Comment on its a jarring realization that deserts, mountains, and worse climates are mroe hospitable to human civilization than Lush/Green looking northern forests 3 weeks ago:
First, the Levante, Egypt and Mesopotamia are not the cradle of humanity but the cradle of civilisation. The Cradle of Humankind is a but further south in South Africa with significant findings for three early genera of homo.
Second, if one talked about the Cradle of Humankind that wouldn’t be history but prehistory.
Third, Siberia and most parts of Canada nowadays are frozen, uninhabitable wastelands during winter.
Fourth, if we talked the cradle of civilisation (what this meme is most likely about) we would also need to talk about the different climatic conditions 5000-6000 years ago and also where exactly these civilisations developed: on relatively narrow strips of fertile land around the rivers of Euphrates, Tigris and Nile.

Sources are few in numbers, many of the existing ones are not considered reliable, there is a lot of mythologicalisation (is that a word? Mythification? Something like that, it’s clouded in myths) around the “crusade”, but what can be reconstructed from the few sources that are considered contemporary no participant actually made it to the Holy Land.
A cologne chronic reports many “crusaders” died from thirst and starvation before even reaching the alps, then the trek reached Genua where a promised parting of the sea (yes, it was promised to happen just like in the bible, apparently) did not occur. From there, many turned to Rome and the Pope to be freed from their oath, others tried to board ships to Palestine, however only a few were successful and those who were were sold into slavery. Not much of a crusade, not a lot of sources (and none from participants), a lot of conflations with other events (like children’s pilgrimages to Mont Saint Michel) and myths (like the Piper of Hamelin), etc.
But most certainly no sword and arrow action in the Holy Land.

The Vendel Era is “part” of the early medieval period though.
Also I checked swedish and danish Wikipedia, they both give a similar time period for the medieval period from 476 to 1400 or 1500.
- Comment on The Early Medieval in Popular Culture 4 weeks ago:
That is an odd classification of the middle ages if I’ve ever seen one.
Usually, the middle ages go from around 500 to around 1500, the early medieval period ends (depending on location) somewhere in the 11th century (1066 in England, 1054 in Byzantium or 1024 in the Holy Roman Empire, just to name a few examples) and is followed by the high medieval period that lasted until the mid 13th century, that was in turn succeeded by tge late medieval period.
“Mid nedieval period” is not a term I ever came across.
