But 793-798 though? Not even worth mentioning.

That is an odd classification of the middle ages if I’ve ever seen one.
Usually, the middle ages go from around 500 to around 1500, the early medieval period ends (depending on location) somewhere in the 11th century (1066 in England, 1054 in Byzantium or 1024 in the Holy Roman Empire, just to name a few examples) and is followed by the high medieval period that lasted until the mid 13th century, that was in turn succeeded by tge late medieval period.
“Mid nedieval period” is not a term I ever came across.

It varies depending on locality.
In Scandinavia for example the medieval period starts after the end of the Viking Age around the middle of the 11th century. 500-800 is the Germanic Iron Age (in Sweden it is called the Vendel period).

The Vendel Era is “part” of the early medieval period though.
Also I checked swedish and danish Wikipedia, they both give a similar time period for the medieval period from 476 to 1400 or 1500.

Maybe cause there are so relatively few sources from that time period. Almost like it was shrouded in something. Some kinda absence of light or something.

Also a lot of persecution of certain knowledge by a certain religion and decline of certain mediteranean empires.
Except for the east, they were in the middle of a philosophical boom.

The eastern Roman empire was fine for that period though

I like this meme. Doesn’t help that the christians love overwriting and erasing history for those of us trying to look back at that period.

Or just that monks made shitty historians in general.
