Its not fully the fault of tech companies, yeah there is some planned obselecence. But there won’t be anymore “I will outlive you” appliances cause the more mechanical it gets the more cheaper and easier it is to repair and they also tends to have less individual components.
I don’t think any of those new smartish watches even from the best of Swizz makers could last like it did 100years ago.

- Comment on What's the real world connection speed from your residential IP to your Server? 8 months ago:
Had the same problem, I found the problem with my ISP , you can do speed test to different servers in speedtest.net . I observes a huge decrease in speed to many servers. This is mostly cause my ISP had bad peering to most servers. Only nearby servers gave full 200Mbps speed. Even some within same country agave <50. The single connection speeds would mist likely be less cause of your ISP’s bad peering. This doesn’t mean you won’t ever get the full speed . when multiple connections are made from different places they would be using the full 1gig speed.

Yes I myself would check if it works with home assistant before purchase , but also there should be some guaranteed period for majority users who want features but not bother with self hosting.

- Comment on Apple's next generation CarPlay allows auto manufacturers to license the OS | Don't look now but Apple is back to licensing an operating system after decades 9 months ago:
Yep , auto manufacturers needs incentive to develop a open protocol such as this. Its not a easy task as this would need to be complaint with many regulations and safety standards. I have some hope for the SDV (software defined vehicle) future like COVESA where the industry is moving towards an opensource architecture but for user softwares you’re right its totally with the manufacturer to allow such open api to users.

Sad to see internet getting regulated. At this pace there would be requirements to link all accounts , everything with government identification documents. Oh its already happening slowly…
Next thing you know there is no more partial anonymous sites and no one can do it without major legal challenges.

It used to be… Recently xaoimi started to delay publishing kernel source. Thus some new phones are not officially supported by lineage. Or the cuatom rom experiemce is not as good as it used to be .They started going the route of BBK.
- Comment on Privacy advocate challenges YouTube's ad blocking detection 1 year ago:
Its their platform . its their choice. We don’t have a choice to force them to allow adblockers. There is always a choose to load content after the ads are served . If they go that route then no adblocker can bypass it.
