So the cars will become cheaper right? Right?
- Comment on Mastodon Follow Packs 2 weeks ago:
The Mammoth for Mastodon app has curated smart lists and a For You feed. It can also suggest people to follow based on your interests. I think that’s an easier way to get new users started vs importing a csv file which the average internet user will be too lazy to do.
- Comment on Why do the majority of women still take their partner's last name? 2 weeks ago:
It’s tradition in my country but not mandatory. The archaic government system is also easier to navigate through if a married couple have same the last name. Because it’s so common for a wife to take her husband’s last name, it immediately raises eyebrows when people claim to be married but have different surnames. In our case, my wife took my last name because she just likes it better than hers. It’s neutral and easier to pronounce.
- Comment on America's Next Health Secretary Enjoying A Meal With His Future Boss and Colleagues 2 weeks ago:
That’s not what people are afraid of. It’s his antivaxx stance and other extreme stuff that people are against. If only he pushed for just the sane stuff like banning/regulating additives, dyes, HFCS, etc.

You can now give someone the finger and tell them that’s the only time you have for them
- Comment on The Great Migration to Bluesky Gives Me Hope for the Future of the Internet 2 weeks ago:
Because most people switching don’t know (or care) about the fediverse and decentralization. They are regular internet users who just want to get away from the cesspool that is twitter, so they go where other people are going.
- Comment on Among apps vying to replace Twitter, Bluesky may have the news and innovation edge 2 weeks ago:
The posr about Stephen King moving to Threads says otherwise. But to be fair, it’s Threads and not Bluesky, which I guess people here hate more.
- Comment on Why BlueSky Isn’t the Alternative to X (Formerly Twitter) You’re Looking For — and Why Mastodon Is the Better Choice Over X, Threads, and BlueSky 2 weeks ago:
Not really. I mean, sure it’s the same concept, but email has been getting semi-centralized between the big players now, with gmail and maybe icloud getting the largest chunk of users. That would be similar to letting users choose between .world or .ml to sign up with, which is against the fediverse principle to spread the load as wide as possible.
When you present the lowest common denominator internet user with hundreds of instances to choose from and requiring them to think further than clicking through a sign-up page, you lose user interest pretty quickly.

Lol I know the feeling. Sometimes I just say “Oh we already use your product…mind if I grab those socks?”.
- Comment on Stop Wasting Pumpkins! 4 weeks ago:
The version I know is that they will only live if they can stick the fruit/vegetable in their ass without making a sound, and they were shot because they couldn’t stop giggling because they saw the third guy carrying <whatever large produce>.

“free” for me. My job has conference/training budget that is use-it-or-lose-it, so might as well go for it. You can also talk your way through getting swag without giving up your contact details, or just provide fake ones.
- Comment on Whenever I see someone walking around in clothes with big, visible branding, I can’t help but think they paid a fortune to wear an advertisement. 5 weeks ago:
The only other type of clothing with clear, visible branding I own aside from band shirts is tech vendor shirts from conferences. But those I get for free, so I didn’t exactly pay to become their billboard.
- Comment on Why don't we just gather up all the ocean's trash and all the nonrecyclables, put them in a rocket, and launch it into the sun? 5 weeks ago:
I also have this incredibly stupid idea to build a very long pipe that goes all the way outside earth’s gravity pull, then launch all the garbage through it with a mechanism similar to a railgun. It doesn’t have to be thrown directly at the sun, just enough to launch stuff out of orbit.
- Comment on How are scammers getting my email address? 5 weeks ago:
Someone who you’ve corresponded to over email had their address book compromised and it was used in a mass phishing email campaign. It’s not necessarily targeted at you. I actually have experience of this happening. I had an email address that I used only to correspond to a single person. I never gave the email to anyone else and never signed up for anything. Well that person’s email was compromised and I started getting spam/phishing emails shortly after that.
- Comment on Support local bands 5 weeks ago:
I always buy merch as it’s worth more than any amount a band earns from streaming. I wish more bands have shirts that aren’t just black though. I’d estimate only a quarter of the artists I’ve seen have shirts of a different color.

- Comment on Visualizing the Cost of the American Dream in 2024 5 weeks ago:
I easily cut that in half by not having kids and pets (personal choice), not spending 44k for a wedding, and not spending 800k on cars. I’ve owned 3 cars over 15 years and they cost 80k total (including loan payments).

- Comment on Will COVID death rates of Republicans have a significant impact on the outcome of the presidential election? 1 month ago:
OP’s question is if the number of republicans who died from covid would affect their voting numbers, not about the quality of the people running or if the people who vote for them care.

Storage costs is the biggest hurdle for decentralized video platforms. I wonder how instances will handle that.
- Comment on I for one welcome Bluesky, the ATmosphere, BTS ARMY, and millions of Brazilians to the fediverses! 1 month ago:
Getting the BTS fanbase to switch platforms is huge and can essentially get you millions of users in an instant. I wish Mastodon was in the picture though.
