- Comment on What do you think makes someone a "Father figure?" 1 week ago:
I’m sure this is not an exhaustive answer, but a father figure (to me) is someone who helps teach someone young the right and wrong way to do things, being there as a safe space for people to ask questions, and being able to divorce the idea of roughness or harshness that comes with being a man in general when someone needs you to comfort, console, or show them support and love.
A father figure is “always in your corner” and is always there to challenge you and cheer you on.
It carries with you a skill of being able to talk someone off a proverbial ledge - when your kid feels like it’s the end of the world when they failed or got embarrassed or rejected, illustrating for them that life will carry on and “this too, shall pass”.
I think all of this is wrapped up into a “father figure”. The sad thing is that father figures need love too, and being a father without one of your own can be a very lonely place to live.
To be clear though, you don’t have to be a father to be a father figure - however some of what molds a father into this role are the many situations we get thrust into it early on when you have kids as you shepherd them through life. You could certainly do the same thing by volunteering or doing Big Brother, etc.
My two cents anyway!
There are definitely deadbeat dads also that shouldn’t be, to your point. It’s super easy to father a child but not so much to be a good dad - it takes a lot of work and sacrifice to do it well.

I had the AC adapter when I got mine as a kid, which helped a ton with that. It was definitely hungry.

Recommend games that can be played with a single cylinder that must be protected, if you know what I’m saying

Feel free to combine words in here for maximum effect. A nice “FASCIST CUNT!” or “DONALD TRUMP! / CHILD RAPIST” would maybe fit better for a stubbed toe than just FASCIST.

- Comment on What is it called when you believe the U.S. political parties shouldn’t exist? 2 months ago:
No they won’t. As long as fptp exists, and as long as one party that blindly aligns with fascism and votes no matter what (as we have seen in practice), then all we will see is continued consolidation of power to that one party and a continued erosion of our rights.
We are living this exact scenario RIGHT NOW. One party was apathetic in voting, and the other one capitalized on it.
- Comment on What is it called when you believe the U.S. political parties shouldn’t exist? 2 months ago:
I don’t know how the hell we’re going to eliminate our first past the post voting system. The two entrenched parties, by design, will want to hold onto that power, and it will require their cooperation to both make change while simultaneously making the active choice to let go of power.
Doesn’t seem likely to happen, which is depressing.
BTW, I’m not disagreeing with you, just felt my reply made the most sense here.

Thank you for pointing out the issues with fptp - so many people don’t understand just how big of an issue it really is. We will never see the change we want (or honestly any real change at all) without abandoning it. Not to diminish your other valid points, I just have a particular passion about that one.

Have you tried notebookLM from Google yet? Provide it s couple documents or web pages and then have it generate an audio analysis. You will get a podcast style report with two voices. They have some pretty advanced production. You can even hear them breathing.
- Comment on Are there any free services that actually let you use an LLM’s full large context window? 4 months ago:
You could always self host something like lm studio and download some models of interest and adjust to the highest amount of input. Of course you will be limited by the hardware as well as the model. As an example, I don’t think LM Studio imposes a limit, it depends on the model.
My apologies if I misunderstood any of your question.
LM Studio is free

Box is fantastic for what you’re looking for, OP. It’s probably the least locked down of them all due to running android and being able to put your own apps on it.
I’m reading One Piece colorized version right now on it and don’t think I’d be able to with any other reader.

I absolutely love my go color 7. Wish I could get the second version of it for stylus support, but it’s absolutely fantastic. Reading through One Piece manga at the moment in color and it’s awesome.
Battery life for an actual android device is incredible. I’ll buy another one the next time I am in the market for one.

- Comment on how did you and your partner change after having a baby? 5 months ago:
I think part of it is maybe people change or are shocked by the realization of the immediate added responsibility, but also remember that you’re certainly not going to sleep as much, like ever again. Losing sleep regularly when you had so much control over your sleeping habits is really impactful to your mental state.
My wife and I didn’t really get angry with each other or change our behavior towards each other, but we definitely were much more tired. At the same time though, you have this wonderful little person that you are shaping (that shits and eats ALL the time) - it’s a massive change of routine. People inherently don’t like change.
I feel a lot of what you’re afraid of stems from this. Just ensure that you both go into it knowing you will need each other to support each other. Do it as a team, share the responsibilities, and truly enjoy those moments because they go by SO fucking fast.
Treat it like a marathon and not a sprint. Compete with each other to be the first to apologize and diffuse the situation when things get heated. Marriage isn’t easy, but it can be rewarding to share that part with your better half.
I hope you figure out how to weather your storm! It’s an amazing thing to see them grow up and to be there every step of the way as a team.
- Comment on Heat setting magnets is bad. 5 months ago:
This should be higher up. OP clearly learned a lesson here but one larger lesson most everyone can learn is that neodymium magnets aren’t the only kind of magnets. Especially when high temperature performance is needed. Samarium Cobalt magnets are much better suited for high temperature and corrosive applications. Plus if I remember correctly they’ve been around longer.
Most neodymium loses it’s magnetism at 200-230C. Some Samarium Cobalt can retain their magnetic properties all the way up to 350C or higher grades up to 500C (1022F)
I nerded out on this a few years ago when I made a magnetic thermal blanket for my pellet smoker and experienced the same thing. Samarium Cobalt did the trick in my application.
- Comment on $80 for Borderlands 4 too costly? Randy Pitchford says, "If you're a real fan, you'll find a way to make it happen" 6 months ago:
I’m really bad about buying new games at launch where I like the franchise and getting burned (looking at you bf2042).
However with all of the stupid politics, tariffs, and recession coming in the US, I’m sure the hell not buying this at $80, even if I’m a long term borderlands fan. I have way too many games in my library I should be playing/finishing anyway.
I hope others speak with their wallets as well.

There’s also a similar service for renting books through your e-reader called Libby. On kobo their Overdrive service uses Libby for the same end result - renting books from your local library on your digital reader. And it’s free!
