There’s something seriously wrong with our communication infrastructure if some rich nutjob can just buy it up and run it into the ground like this. This could’ve never happened if Twitter were a worker-owned collective. Chalk another one up for capitalism.

I wish I could block Elon Musk from reality.

You don’t have a choice over whether or not you’re fat. If you ask a fat person if they want to be fat, I can guarantee that the vast majority of them will say no.
Believing in flat earth, on the other hand, is a choice. The people in the Flat Earth movement don’t want to leave; in fact, when faced with contradictory evidence, they just dig their heels in.

Did you watch the movie? Because the experiments showed that the earth was round, they decided that there must have been something wrong with the experiments.

I tried a couple of other numbers before I realized that “user224” is your shell login. LOL
My shell login doesn’t link to anything, though, and now I’m wondering why. Maybe I used a different email to sign up for Lemmy?

Eternity “works” in that I can see posts and comments, but I can’t upvote or comment myself. (The error I get is “Code 401 Body: null”.)

I’ve been using Discord since 2017 and not once have I had some random stranger get naked on camera. I’m not saying that there aren’t problems with it. There probably are. I just think that saying it’s worse than Omegle is bizarre.
- Comment on Omegle Was Forced to Shut Down by a Lawsuit From a Sexual Abuse Survivor 1 year ago:
That’s nuts! I thought that Omegle was text only. I had no idea that they paired you with people on video. WTF thought that was a good idea?!?

So, Musk could do anything at all with X, and you’d still keep using it. Got it.

Where do you draw the line? What would Musk have to do before you said “Fuck it. I’m not using this site anymore”?

I think it’s important to call out bigotry whenever you see it.

The way I remember it is “i.e.” means “In other words” and “e.g.” means “for Example”.

What a bunch of assholes.
Yeah, it’s really surprising that an ethical, upstanding company like Meta would pull a dick move like that. It’s so out of character.
- Comment on Where did the abbreviation "w/" for "with" come from? 1 year ago:
Yeah, “O.K.” came first, “okay” was later. It has a weird history. According to the American Heritage Dictionary:
During the 1830s there was a humoristic fashion in Boston newspapers to reduce a phrase to initials and supply an explanation in parentheses. Sometimes the abbreviations were misspelled to add to the humor. OK was used in March 1839 as an abbreviation for all correct, the joke being that neither the O nor the K was correct. Originally spelled with periods, this term outlived most similar abbreviations owing to its use in President Martin Van Buren’s 1840 campaign for reelection. Because he was born in Kinderhook, New York, Van Buren was nicknamed Old Kinderhook, and the abbreviation proved eminently suitable for political slogans.

It’s actually an initialism for “Oll Korrect”. I’m not kidding.
- Comment on Where did the abbreviation "w/" for "with" come from? 1 year ago:
It isn’t a random 4-letter word. It’s a common preposition. It’s like using “&” or “+” instead of “and”.

Unfortunately, “Rich asshole buys thing and screws minorities” is a daily occurrence. (Although rarely at this scale.)

You’re mixing up facts with ideological stances, but I don’t think you’re doing it on purpose. I think that you just don’t understand what a fact is.
If you’re trying to fight malaria and one person believes that malaria is caused by a virus and another person thinks it’s caused by demons, you shouldn’t give those points of view equal weight.
