This exists on literally every platform and isn’t new to Twitter. That’s why moderation is extremely important because if there’s an upload button, then you need to plan for when a malicious user eventually does this. It’s not an if, but a when, and you need to prepare for it.

Twitter had a meaningful mod team - some genius thought it’d be a great idea to get rid of them.

I ditched Xitter ages ago yet this does not surprise me after everything that’s happened
sanqueue@lemmy.world 11 months ago
X is a shitshow. I’m surprised people are still using it

Large orgs are stuck there by their own sluggishness. They’ll get around to finding something else, hopefully Mastodon. This is, incidentally, a really good time to remind everyone how great Mastodon is, if anyone happens to find themselves with opportunity and the mood.
But just imagine the number of unpaid interns working for news companies that are literally being asked to sit there and monitor twitter. I just … those poor kids. They just wanted to be journalists, have some mercy…

No wonder Republicans LOVE it!

I use twitter exclusively for porn and follow a plenty of accounts posting taboo content. I have never encountered cp, not even once. The worst I’ve seen is provocative non-nudes of girls of questionable age.
cley_faye@lemmy.world 11 months ago
These posts (the bad ones) are likely posted by bots, and swarm the popular/hot topics randomly. Following what’s most likely already hindered content, weirdly enough, protect about that.
Thorny_Insight@lemm.ee 11 months ago
I think the most likely case here is that people simply just think something is cp which actually isn’t. For example the previously mentioned non-nudes or pictures of women that look young but aren’t underage. People accuse lemmynsfw instance of allowing cp aswell when in reality they obviously don’t but some content posted on adorableporn for example might seem like it on a quick glance.
There’s a discussion to be had about wether non-nudes of underage girls should be allowed either because at the very least that’s really distasteful but then again underwear shopping catalogs have those pictures aswell so go figure. However there’s no doubt about what kind of people follow the accounts posting that stuff and I’m pretty sure twitter deletes even that.

And the worst I have seen is two characters from my favorite video game kissing. MALE characters. AS A GIF.

I haven't seen anything of Twitter in a while
ElectroNeutrino@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Not using it helps do that.
Rakonat@lemmy.world 11 months ago
I found that never using it has mostly cured me of it. People still posting damn tweets on reddit and lemmy all the damn time though.
Tetra@kbin.social 11 months ago
Exactly.
Globeparasite@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Bold of you to assume there was a time on Twitter where they removed child porn
Ab_intra@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Really not surprised at all. It’s a shame what Twitter has turned into. All because of a rich maniac.

The clown attracted to children so they renamed it to X for a reason

There is CSAM on basically any platform because humans are horrible and tools to preemptively block it don’t really work. The only question is how fast they can be detected, reported and removed, and how unlucky you happen to be.
RushingSquirrel@lemm.ee 11 months ago
Of course not. Don’t trust everything you read online. People shit on Elon Musk’s stuff for internet points.
Spacemanspliff@midwest.social 11 months ago
I dunno, the only place I’ve seen people claiming that everyone’s just shitting on musk for points is the Internet. So Im not gonna trust it and assume musk is a human garbage pile.
Asudox@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Lemmings don’t really beg or try anything to get more upvotes in here as there’s no benefit of doing so. Reddit had karma, Lemmy does not. So I would believe the hate for elon if I were you. But that’s completely upto you.

Yeah has nothing to do with the fact that he's actively furthering the west's descent into authoritarianism or anything. Guy misses apartheid
admin@lemmy.my-box.dev 11 months ago
I’d say he’s stopping it, by making everyone leave / less reliant on twitter.
How do you think he’s making it worse?
FunkyMonk@kbin.social 11 months ago
I will shit on him for points but he is also a giant shitpile so that is where the shit goes choom.

X is busy hiding truths while leaving these illegal stuff unattended.
Now can we please ditch X?
waitmarks@lemmy.world 11 months ago
wtf does this have to do with technology? it’s just some post on reddit making an unsubstantiated claim.
Infiltrated_ad8271@kbin.social 11 months ago
It was a known reality before musk. On buying twitter he said he would end it, I don't know what attempts were made, but after firing a large part of his staff I doubt very much that the situation is any better than before.
sir_reginald@lemmy.world 11 months ago
It’s certainly not impossible. But this content is actively removed when detected. So that person must have found something very recently posted before it could have been removed.
Twitter has a high interest in removing CSAM, even if they allow pro nazi talk. CSAM is illegal and they would have to shutdown if they didn’t immediately delete such content.
Zagorath@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Maybe. I doubt anyone is accusing Musk of specifically being okay with CSAM on his website.
The more likely accusation is that staffing problems at X—in the form of raw number of employees as well as employee morale and anything else contributing to how much work gets done—are so severe that more CSAM is getting through, and staying up, for longer than before.
Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Didn’t he unban and stick up for somebody who posted CSAM to the site? (I’ll try and find the article with it, if anybody else knows what it is feel free to reply with it).
snooggums@kbin.social 11 months ago
You are talking about twitter, not X. The people who cared about removing that stuff were fired when Musk took over.
NeoNachtwaechter@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Still there can be quite different interpretations of “immediately”, when you don’t have enough people working at it.
