I’ve tried responding with something different. The response from the other person is always the same anyway so your response to this question doesn’t matter anyway.

Have you tried Space Cadet pinball?

A warning before you jump in: it’s crazy difficult. It took me about 70 hours of gameplay to be able to finish a play through…but after that it became pretty repeatable once I had learnt how to do it. This is pretty standard, but the failed runs are all fun and the gameplay is excellent and hilarious.
The enemies are bullets that are holding guns and shooting bullets at you. You can unlock a gun that looks like a bullet, that shoots bullets that look like guns, that shoot their own bullets. Everything in the game is a pun.

Rogue-lites are basically made to be infinitely re-playable and if I find one I like then I keep going back to it. Enter the Gungeon is a game I’ve played for years. Then there was a while this spot was taken by Slay the Spire and Balatro in turn. Now I’m back to Enter the Gungeon.

There’s a lot of social programming at play and it is particularly difficult for women to push back against the enormous pressure. Men get an easier pass for not looking pristine or in line with expectations.
That being said, my wife has changed her outlook in the past 2 years. She has discovered minimalism and anti-consumerism. I myself am much more of an advocate for function above all else.

yet no one seems genuinely impressed by it
You’re living in a bubble. Very many people are impressed, even if you and I aren’t. I never cared or knew about these things before. But my wife does know about brands and will point out when someone is wearing over £20000 in their outfit. My parents push me to buy an expensive car “because of how it appears” to have the more luxury brand car (even when I don’t care). My cousin says he has to go on holiday to fancy places to keep up with what other parents/kids talk about in their private school.
I think it is all nonsense as well, but the reason so many people still do it is because it absolutely works. Most people are certainly impressed even if you aren’t.

They are fulfilling their purpose though. These people are trying to announce their “status” in society so others know how rock and successful they are. They’re not advertising the brand, they’re using the brand to advertise themselves. The problem is that a lot of people in society are actually impressed by shit like that.
- Comment on Why are laptop adapters so much larger than phone adapters of same power rating? 2 months ago:
Ah, I’ve never tried to convert it that way. Laptops all seem to have USB charging for many years now.
- Comment on Why are laptop adapters so much larger than phone adapters of same power rating? 2 months ago:
I got it from Ali Express and hope this link works for you. Just look out for the size that fits your current laptop charger. Also check how many watts your laptop charger does, it needs to be able to output 65W if you want to charge a 65W device.

Pro tip: eBay used laptop USB chargers are dirt cheap compared to a GaN charger + USB PD cable. I’ve put laptop chargers all around the house so I always have one available for my laptop, phone and Steam Deck.
Another tip: even if your laptop charger isn’t USB C, you can get a converter to make it a PD USB charger for a couple of £.

- Comment on Is there any privacy-friendly way to use Facebook on iOS? 2 months ago:
I don’t know anything about iOS, but I use FB on Android for the marketplace. I keep a prepaid sim card for giving a phone number to accounts like this. I throw away the sim every few years and burn the accounts and make new ones. FB is used from a browser in a seperate work profile on the phone to keep it isolated.
This sub obviously has a strong reaction against FB. But if you need to use it then put up what defended you can and go for it.

I love Linux. I’ve moved both my PC and laptop to Linux this year and gotten rid of Windows completely and I’m loving it. OpenSUSE Tumbleweed doesn’t get enough love.
That being said… Linux is not easy guys. This guy is full of shit. But I would still recommend trying it if you’re an enthusiast with this sort of inclination.

Handwired keyboards with a Raspberry Pi or Arduino are achievable: github.com/joe-scotto/scottokeebs
I’ve made 2 keyboards with kits (see my post history) and it was good fun and an easy way to get a QMK compatible custom board. Would recommend.

There’s research that shows that even when 2 people are talking about very simple matters, the their mental models of the issue and interpretations of the subject are completely different the vast majority of the time. There was an interesting podcast about it that I’ll try to dig out from months of history in my podcast app.
