These people are missing out on arm gains.
I’ve got a phone holder that attaches to my Steam Deck so I can watch movies while gaming. So the combined contraption is the Deck+S23 Ultra+the holder mechanism. I’ll easily hold and play this for over an hour when I take my kids to an indoor play area.
You gotta work for the gains you sissies.

Have you not lived through the political shit show we’ve had? Brexit, COVID scandals, Boris Johnson, Farage, stagnating wages, poor productivity, inflation, high energy prices, NHS in crisis, housing shit show…and there’s no end in sight. Think the UK hasn’t been doing that badly is quite a willful refusal to see how we compare to the rest of the world and where we could have been if we functioned better.

You can put down a small tub or mug to catch the water to use. I run water into a mug and use that to wash my kid’s asses after their bedtime poop. I mix bubble bath into the remaining cold water in the mug for the kids to play with when showering. Then they can get straight into the tub and warm water will come from the showerhead right away.
There are tons of use for the room temp water…water plants, fill the iron, fill the floor mop bucket, etc.

What’s the purpose of putting “Nobody:” in memes now? It never used to be in memes. It adds nothing. Am I too old to understand internet culture now?
- Comment on Jellyfin is not just good... but *better* than Plex now?! 2 weeks ago:
Wife approval factor
My wife won’t use it if she can’t see an app for it to click on to start using immediately. Going through browsers is not an option. Not having a dedicated app on the LG TV is not an option. Not being able to find something instantly means instant rejection. She refused Plex, but now sometimes uses it and has learnt to find subtitles, etc by herself.
I don’t touch my self hosted apps. If something doesn’t behave properly on the first attempt then it gets rejected from our household. It’s only for us enthusiast nerds to put up with kanky UI and setup issues for the sake of superior functionality. Normie’s won’t tolerate it.

you don’t need to give social advise to a neurotypical person
Supremely disagree.
Here’s a podcast episode I’ve heardtodayto illustrate the example of just how bad most “neurotypical” can be with simple social social interactions:

“Be yourself” is the most pointless thing to say to anyone. It doesn’t help the recipient at all. Same for *be a better person". You could say “be genuine” and that would be slightly more helpful.
From my background in education: under-performers tend to be poor judges of their position, tend to have no idea what good performance looks like or how to get there, and tend to surround themselves with similar under-performers. So someone who is underperforming in a social role (making friends, work place fitting in, dating, etc) needs a lot more focused and good quality feedback.

I didn’t really understand the motivation before when so many people made regular content for internet strangers for nothing. Especially when so many of the comments are so sleazy and rapey.

Where/how do I check or know what impact that has? I think this just further strengthens the point that Lemmy is not welcoming to normal users at all and is just for specialist nerds.
- Comment on Onboarding experience needs to be simpler for mass adoption 3 weeks ago:
Makes sense once there’s enough of a userbase…but currently there isn’t a huge amount of content of interest on Lemmy and sticking to a local instance just limits this even more. Currently I have to stick to “all” as even areas of subscription can run out of content with a quick scroll session.
- Comment on Onboarding experience needs to be simpler for mass adoption 3 weeks ago:
I’m pretty techie and I’ve been here for months. I still don’t fully understand why it matters and how a different instance would have changed my experience. The fediverse is so fragmented, it would be dumb to stick to one instance. My app is always set to browse “all”. Everyone commenting seems to be from different instances. I’m certainly not going to start reading about different instances at signup when it presents the fact that you will be able to access all instances anyway. I picked randomly from one of the most popular choices. This whole process of a selection of an instance sounded good to software engineers, and sure this is how the technology fits together…but these are “back end” issues that I (and other normies) don’t care about at all. Users do not want to get into the weeds of how the back end works and it is certainly off putting.

So they will know an app is harmful, allow it to stay on the store, allow it to be downloaded and installed…but then block the permissions. Thanks G
Also, the only app I’ve ever seen flagged as harmful on my phone so far is KDE connect, so I can’t say I have much faith in this avoiding false positives.

A lot of characters are short range or melee.
There are a bunch of flying/gliding/wall climbing characters, but a lot of characters don’t have tools to deal with enemies who are not grounded.
The game has been fun, but I’ve given it up now mainly because of balance and match making issues. >80% of the games I play are completely one-sided. One team will never be able to touch the objective or will be completely confined to the spawn point. Even if I’m on the winning team, that’s just no fun.

- Comment on What's the game you play when nothing else sounds good? 2 months ago:
A warning before you jump in: it’s crazy difficult. It took me about 70 hours of gameplay to be able to finish a play through…but after that it became pretty repeatable once I had learnt how to do it. This is pretty standard, but the failed runs are all fun and the gameplay is excellent and hilarious.
The enemies are bullets that are holding guns and shooting bullets at you. You can unlock a gun that looks like a bullet, that shoots bullets that look like guns, that shoot their own bullets. Everything in the game is a pun.
