When did it become the responsibility of technology to parent a child?

I’ll just leave this here and let you folks make up your own mind about child exploitation.
- Comment on Sony is testing dynamic pricing: one game - different prices on the PlayStation Store 3 days ago:
Ugh God. I remember that “Magic Gate” bullshit when the PSP launched. They started a trend with the Walkman and they’re trying to get lightning to strike twice. Never could do it though. Good.
Those greedy assholes need to engineer and innovate in other areas.
- Comment on Sony is testing dynamic pricing: one game - different prices on the PlayStation Store 3 days ago:
It’s almost as though Valve provides a valuable service and respects their customers. Rare traits in the corporate world. Answering to a board of directors is a hell of a lot easier than answering to shareholders.
Enshitification hasn’t struck there…yet.

Heh… It will be a very very long time before any of these companies see a thin dime of that tariff money back…if ever.
- Comment on Microsoft Copilot to hijack your browser... for your own convenience 3 days ago:
I just commented the same thing. I disabled what I didn’t want at startup and have had zero intrusive prompts from unnecessary Windows bloat.
I’m still holding out hope that Linux finally becomes a mainstream OS one day.
- Comment on Microsoft Copilot to hijack your browser... for your own convenience 3 days ago:
I installed Windows 11 with a local account, disabled trash like OneDrive and Copilot and haven’t had any problems with them coming back.
Any market share that Linux can claw away from Microslop is always a good thing.

God. I can’t believe it. I’ve lived long enough to see the return of the dumb terminal. FFS.

Fuck Flock and fuck Garrett Langley with a wooden tent stake; Trump style.
I’ve got a lens over my plate that looks blurry unless you look at it straight on at eye level. We’ll be like China soon.
- Comment on Peter Thiel and other tech billionaires are publicly shielding their children from the products that made them rich 2 weeks ago:
This isn’t new. I remember fifteen years ago some Silicon Valley app engineers forbade their children from playing the games that were being developed.
It’s because they’re engineered to use your psychology against you. This is by design.
- Comment on Did anyone really think the Final Fantasy 7 remake was better than the original PS1 version? 2 weeks ago:
I loaded my late 90s save from the big box PC release on Steam and the achievements came rolling in.
- Comment on Did anyone really think the Final Fantasy 7 remake was better than the original PS1 version? 2 weeks ago:
FFVII has been my all time favorite video game since the late 90s. The remake is so chock full of unnecessary fluff and gives me zero reason to care about it.
I couldn’t finish Rebirth. It’s too much of a slog and makes me miss the tight pacing and storytelling of the original game.

I’m playing through Pokemon Unbound on my Steam Deck and it’s scratching a decades old itch. I mostly outgrew the games after Gen 1, but that little red Gameboy Pocket got me through many a 9th grade study hall.

- Comment on YouTube adds new hurdles for ad blockers, and there's currently no way around it 3 weeks ago:
Meh. My ad blocking strategy on my phone and desktop still works fine. I use Morphe (formerly Revanced), uBlock Origin on Firefox and AdGuard on my android phone.
No ads. No problem.
- Comment on Retrograde - A Halo Tribute 3 weeks ago:
Considering I grew up with PC shooters in the 90s, Halo was waaay overrated. The best thing Bungie did was introduce online multiplayer to consoles.
Sure I had fun zooming around with the warthog in college LAN games, but the overall pacing of the game was glacially slow coming from twitchy shooters like Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament and Starsiege: Tribes.

Correct. Lets hope Valve remains a consumer-friendly monopoly for the long term.
Legions of lesser companies have long since enshittified themselves while screwing consumers until they are blue in the face.
God bless Gabe.

Rock on, dude. I do almost all of my gaming from the couch so 1080p looks fine to me and my GPU doesn’t have to crank out 4K worth of pixels to drag down my FPS.

Meh. I’m over it. Shovelware is abundant on all platforms and it’ll lead to another industry crash similar to 1983 as soon as the economy chokes.
My Steam backlog will last years.
