thats a dishonest argument. One has a money assembly line straight to a billionaire’s house. The other’s assembly line that has a possibility to be used for public good.

it may not seem like it but… being offline is the best thing you can do to your mental health. No need to overwhelm your brain with stuff happening elsewhere when you already have to deal with stuff closer to home. Being aware is generally better than being ignorant but it shouldn’t disable your daily life.

its a paid platform where engagement (i.e bickering in the comments section) is near absent. And the content is allowed to address themes that make main stream media blush.
- Comment on YouTube's Latest Update Shows That Online Monoculture Is Dead 1 week ago:
taking a guess but I already saw some other comments on another thread mention this: The chart boys in any corps will see Engagement == Profit. Thus they will tune their recommendations solely for that. And if you aren’t bothered about properly policing your video upload platform the end result is highly divisive content thats “not boring”.
Divisive content makes people angry so they engage in comments.
i used to be on reddit. And I used to get into “debates” that devolved into a slap fight and make me angry about the people who intentionally or unintentionally riled me up with outrageous (real or my own perception) opinions.
While lemmy also has slap fights, I feel like the lack of an “algorithm” tuned for engagement prevents continuous fueling of the fire, metaphorically speaking.

yes way. I have seen it with my own father. And the saddest part is they got this from religious rightwing media and have never ever interacted or had an opportunity to interact with the out-group that they are told to fear. Oh and, I am not from the 1st world. This shit is everywhere.

Sure yeah I could be wrong. If America scares them more than China it’s a major turning point because they are European.
What I initially got from their comment: They are more concerned about actually real threats in their life like Google, Meta, or Apple which are American and are probably what they are using at work and outside of work given they live in Europe. They are less concerned about china because they don’t use chinese phones daily or hangout in weChat (I hope).
Where I can of course be wrong about this: They are actually using Tiktok and don’t care about the possible spying. They could be using chinese tech and simply not know. main concern is if they are on some tech stack at work or their ISP has equipment from chinese companies known to phone home.

thats not what they said did they? they said they are more concerned about American companies harvesting their data as they live in Europe and don’t have as much affinity to China.

What is with people responding to what Islam stands for and being like “Yes, thats a great thing they have going there, we should consider them role models”?
The kind of ideology you defend would call you a fakir if you were not born a Muslim and probably behead you if you said anything that would be perceived as an insult to their god.
This is fine if it is confined to their own followers but why should they expect tolerance if they don’t tolerate outsiders?

A religion where women don’t have equal rights doesnt deserve to exist. You are okay with christian conservative bullshit?

Shouldn’t be a crime to criticize a shitty religion and its shitty preachers.

Seems unfair that muslims don’t want to integrate into other countries but want others to follow their shitty religion.

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans are not the ones bombing Gaza
You’re so close to self realization. Neither are the Arabs living in Amsterdam part of Hamas. Yet that didn’t stop these Israelis from burning flags, taunting people, saying horrible things like “Fuck Arabs” and causing trouble in the Netherlands of all places.
Israeli people spewed venom, burnt palestinian flags and taunted amsterdam residents. You’re saying that retaliating is antisemitic. I say that’s bullshit.
Remember how in post-9/11 America violence against Arabs residents and businesses skyrocketed, despite their only connection being country of origin, ethnicity, or religion? That’s what Jews around the world are experiencing because of Gaza - because of people like you.
You seem to be manufacturing the racism by twisting what I said. I only said those who choose violence shouldn’t be surprised people are retaliating with violence. It’s not my problem that you incorrectly think people are retaliating because of your origin instead of your behavior.
The behavior of the Maccaba Tel Aviv fans had consequences. Now Israel and the general media is trying to avoid talking about the behavior that started all this and deliberately focusing on the retaliation as if it happened because of the identities of the people.

I don’t see people calling for decency when it’s brown people on the receiving end. I only see people calling for decency when people call out/fight back against the agressors.

The victim mentality is just in your head. Others just see an asshole who is burning down your flag and abusing you with death threats.
You pretend as if your nationality is visible to people like a banner… but it’s not. It’s just your behavior.
When you behave like an asshole and indulge in violence and spew hatred you expect people to respect your origin?

Immoral and unjust laws are meant to be broken. When Exxon Mobil writes the law jailing activists for blocking traffic and airplanes and that is equivalent to 4-5 years… same as for brutal violence, that should make your blood boil if you’re someone who cares about our planet and our future.
