- Comment on Hey Evolution! You know that flinch I do when I think of embarrassing things in my past, sometimes accompanied by a groan? 4 days ago:
shame served an evo function that has become less useful when you can do easily find a new tribe and security in modern life
- Comment on What happens to those who are severely disabled while in prison? 1 week ago:
But showing that it happens to one dude does not mean it happens “often”. That’s really anecdotal.
- Comment on What happens to those who are severely disabled while in prison? 1 week ago:
I’m not confident anyone in this thread really knows what they’re talking about
- Comment on What happens to those who are severely disabled while in prison? 1 week ago:
Serious mental disabilities often end up in mental institutions instead of prisons, they’re often found not criminally responsible for their actions.
do you have a source for this one

Not sure why they report on one person doing this… isn’t this the norm?
- Comment on I like this text. In which Lemmy community can I best share it ? Thanks. 2 weeks ago:
why not just respond to the prompt? everyone else found it an appropriate setting to discuss the content. OP clearly liked it and walked to talk about it anywhere it fits!
- Comment on I like this text. In which Lemmy community can I best share it ? Thanks. 2 weeks ago:
Very interesting sentiments, very agreeable, but if this were one of my patients I would be quick to redirect the conversation away from “society is wrong” into “I’m realizing that I believe this is my path”. Generalizations like that do us no good.

great take on an old classic
- Comment on Is there a more politically and ideologically diverse alternative for Lemmy? 4 weeks ago:
We will have all that, soon enough. Reddit has size over Lemmy and with size comes monetization. They’ve gone full corporate, selling our data and our content to make a profit. We’re here to stand against that. Hopefully over time we can support enough basic communities that this place will be able to grow over the years.
Until then, help implement the barebones stuff. Make sure you’re subbed to those 4 communities and make a post or two in them. And it’s really not that big of a deal if you browse Reddit from time to time, but don’t neglect the barebones communities here if you’re gonna do that.
- Comment on Is there a more politically and ideologically diverse alternative for Lemmy? 4 weeks ago:
You know you’re allowed to make comments in threads challenging people if you think their comments are too one sided?
Saying “I’d like to hear a different perspective” is generally interpreted by others as “Your perspective is wrong” and then the assumptions begin, which lead to accusations and bickering.
- Comment on How to hide comments that mention a specific word ? (on lemmy of course) 4 weeks ago:
ur uncringe
- Comment on How to revitalize this sub? 4 weeks ago:
I dunno I never really fit in that sub because I am not only a patient gamer but I also don’t care to play every game under the sun. I’m patient because I don’t spend money on upgrading my rig and because I enjoy playing 1 game for 1000 hours rather than 100 games for 10 hours. I just beat MHW: Iceborne recently and like, that’s pretty cool. I might buy the new Diablo 2 update some day maybe. What else do I gotta say?

actually think that you are an evil person because you don’t agree with them on some minor point.
Right, this is the major issue for me. I am here for the community. This site doesn’t have half the content that Reddit has. We’re here on principle with each other. If you aren’t trying to make some kind of a connection with me as a person, if you get lost in some singular bullshit nonsense comment I wrote at 10AM on an idle Tuesday, if you start to attribute beliefs and opinions to me that I don’t have, then I have no interest in engaging with you.
- Comment on Why don't we hear more about the 2017 Las Vegas shooting? It was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, we never found a motive, and it seems no one ever mentions it. 1 month ago:
Well I can’t speak for anyone else, but me personally I never talk about it because I don’t talk about mass shootings in general.

I’ve said plenty “to your face” and all you see me as is another anonymous with a preset of opinions you’re already set on disagreeing with. You don’t give me the benefit of even having a face. But you expect it from others? Next time you see me , ask something about me and get to know me.

- Comment on Expertise 2 months ago:
Well I’d like to think I’m not! I wanted to point to an actually dubious thing where we might call into question a study, so we could still respect the work being done while validating the importance of standards in research.
You’re right though that it’s disappointing how many responses seem to address only the flaws in modern science and not acknowledge the strength of the scientific process. I think a big part of it does come down to how scientific findings are interpreted and reported to the public, and even further an all-too-human misunderstanding of epistemic limitations. Our cultures should spend more time educating people about the limits of knowledge and fact, how they are constrained by other flawed systems, etc. That would be a half-decent start, if we could only fix the entire reporting problem too.

Nice we’re keeping the Reddit tradition of just repeating “Dunning Kruger Dunning Kruger Dunning Kruger” every time we see disagreement
