- Comment on Local domains constantly time out according to Uptime-Kuma 2 months ago:
I’ve heard DuckDNS has become more unreliable. You could try another service like afraid.org and see if it makes a difference.
- Comment on 2024 Self-Host User Survey Results 3 months ago:
I only need to send sign up and password reset emails for Jellyfin, I don’t need to receive any emails back.
- Comment on Selfhostable notes app that encrypts the files on Disk? 4 months ago:
You can selfhost Standard Notes. The notes are encrypted client side before they reach the server.
- Comment on Alternative to Life360? 4 months ago:
I’ve been using OwnTracks for a while and it works really well.

I setup a Lens so that if my query contains a single letter ‘r’', only Reddit results will be returned.
- Comment on Linkwarden - An open-source collaborative bookmark manager to collect, organize and preserve webpages | July 2024 Update - New iOS App, Full Page Copy, User Administration and more... 🚀 6 months ago:
No, this is a bookmark software. You can probably use JDownloader for this to scrape a URL for downloadable content, depending on how the site you use is formatted.
- Comment on Microsoft fixes Windows 11 bug causing reboot loops, taskbar freezes 6 months ago:
Just because your personal computer isn’t Windows, plenty of servers that contain your data are.
- Comment on m3u (iptv) client which is not Jellyfin? 8 months ago:
I have run Jellyfin for about 3 years. Plex has a lot of community support and praise so I spun up a test instance. Unfortunately for Jellyfin, Plex is much most reliable for me in pretty much every way. I would love for Jellyfin to keep improving but the switch to Plex just made the media experience so much nicer.
- Comment on Recommend me a music streaming service? 8 months ago:
I’ve really been liking Tidal. It has a fair shake of Aussie artists and has a radio feature that feels very exploratory. I can go to John Williamson and tap radio and it doesn’t feel like it’s trying to cram Billboard Top 100 down my throat.

And a lesson to all as to why backups are essential.
- Comment on Jellyseer for ebooks? 9 months ago:
Have you tried using Calibre with Readarr? You use Readarr and the request tool then you can tell Readarr to use Calibre to manipulate the library. I find that this does a fantastic job of sorting out all of my ebooks with all their editions and naming conventions.
- Comment on Should I use authentik with or without nginx proxy manager? 10 months ago:
I use it in two different ways. If I am using OIDC (e.g. Audiobookshelf), then I will only use Authentik. If I need to use a proxy outpost and pass those credentials to the server (e.g. Navidrome) then I need to use NPM to do that.

I prefer Symphonium. Tempo isn’t nearly featured enough for me just yet.

- Comment on What's your favorite note-taking application? 1 year ago:
I’ve used Joplin and Standard Notes. I do use Standard Notes premium and I much prefer it.
- Comment on Should i use Cloudflare? 1 year ago:
You’re asking on Lemmy, so you’re going to get a lot of privacy related answers. For usability, Cloudflare tunnels are a super easy and free way to setup and don’t involve your family members having to VPN into your network with Tailscale or Wireguard. This is especially useful if they are streaming from a smart TV or media stick.
Is it the most privacy-friendly? No. You’re giving up a little bit of that for convenience and lower maintenance. IMO for my threat model, it’s worth it.

- Comment on YouTube Premium family plan price update ($17.99/month -> $32.99/month!) 1 year ago:
All prices seem to be going up around the board. I just got an email saying my Turkish Family Plan (via VPN) is increasing from TRY ₺59.99 to TRY ₺115.99. That’s $3.29 to $6.36.
- Comment on Privacy friendly authenticator ? 1 year ago:
If you like syncing across devices, Bitwarden (paid) or Proton Pass. If you already use Bitwarden and don’t like the idea of having passwords and 2FA in the same place, just make a second Bitwarden account.
- Comment on This seems to happen more and more recently 1 year ago:
If you were interested in trying another app, I love Waze and find its directions and navigation far superior to Google Maps (even though it’s owned by Google, go figure).
If you don’t mind trying a map app based on OSM, try Magic Earth. It has really good navigation for driving and you can even download large maps offline for a fraction of the storage it would take using Google or Apple.
- Comment on Search engines compared 1 year ago:
It’s most likely an API key that counts each search performed and logs it against your account. You don’t need to see a user’s search to track that information.
- Comment on Mullvad and Tailscale Announce Partnership 1 year ago:
Most private trackers don’t allow a shared VPN like Mullvad anyway. Some do but most don’t.
