  Well, no software is. The difference is that Plex just leaked data of all there users, where Jellyfin can’t, because they don’t have this data.

  Really, my guy? You forget that Plex takes things away after saying they wouldn’t? You’re happy with your paid Plex pass… Until Plex decides one day that your pass isn’t lifetime anymore. Or that it doesn’t cover the features it used to. And yes, Plex has lied about this before. That’s why so many ppl are pissed at Plex.

  And please give an example of “jellyfin being held back”, whatever that means.

  Ethan Sholly, if you don’t know anything about how FOSS works, just listen and stop talking.

      For me, it’s still better than Jellyfin. I can’t wait until I can switch over. I have both Plex and Jellyfin containers going simultaneously and Plex just works better and is a more reliable experience.

  Plex isn’t perfect, but the open-source aspect of Jellyfin is holding the platform back. Fractured development across its third-party ecosystem prevents any clients from being as functional as apps like Plexamp while also creating hyper-focused support for popular platforms and leaving smaller platforms virtually unsupported.

  This is a strange take. Being open source doesn’t cause unfocused development and platform prioritization issues. Those both happen to proprietary software, especially the latter.

  These are more symptoms of it being a community project rather than developed by a company, but community FOSS projects can also be run very effectively. There are many examples of this.

  A lot of FOSS development is done by the people who use it. So I suspect as more people move away from Plex, a subset of those users will help contribute to the aspects of Jellyfin they care about.

  Jellyfin development is accelerating, while Plex’s enshittification is accelerating. The line is different for everyone, and one by one, I suspect Plex will cross them all.

    The only thing I’m looking/waiting for is a jellyfin audio player that automatically goes to full screen visualisation or lyrics after a determined amount of seconds of music playing + no user inputs… Wish I could do it myself and contribute to the project, but alas.

      a very specific feature, so you should open a feature request at the repos of the jellyfin audio players that you mostly like, probably the devs didn’t even consider it yet
