- Comment on Longtime buddy of mine just got a gaming PC. What games would make up a good "welcome to PC" care package? 4 weeks ago:
Big shout out to Beyond All Reason. It’s an RTS game that’s free and open source that I’ve been playing with my friends for a few weeks now. Not even a fan of RTS games, but it’s a lot of fun to play co-op matches against AI.

You need empathy to moderate. What other reason is there to do it? You want to make the community a better place by keeping things civil and on-topic. You also need to be able to level with people about their criticisms and concerns.

I had no idea I even relied on them until they were down. My favorite podcast hosts through them and I had to find a workaround.

Well Nintendo is playtesting a Minecraft-style MMO so hopefully they’ve put resources towards better online play.

Individual samples and UV lights, though often there was a rock where multiple people would lick it. People probably don’t get sick from that often.
- Comment on Do you have what it takes to become a geologist? 3 months ago:
Geology degree here - you identify some rocks by licking them. Licking most rocks will give you no information. But in a final, honestly, nobody would bat an eye if you licked all of them, just in case.

Sure, but for every story about a selkie that wants to drag you underwater and drown you, there are several more about gnomes that want to hide your shoes or fairy people that would trap you in a 100-year party.
- Comment on What a prompt 4 months ago:
At the same time, old folk tales portray these creatures as wild and powerful. Generally not malevolent (certainly not godly), but not something you should mess with.
But I agree it’s the new spooky supernatural go-to. Goblincore is the new zeitgeist and I’m here for it!

Until there’s combat, I don’t think there’s going to be any significant risk/reward choices. Basically you choose the right gear loadout and head to an activity; you can try to optimize by planning a route, trying to keep your inventory from getting full, etc. There’s also low drop rate collectables, so it’s a risk to try to find it vs. spending your time on some guaranteed progression.
But at the end of the day, it’s a super lightweight step tracking game that gives me some cute in-game progress for when I have to run to the grocery store, or I can make sure I queue up something good before I run a 10k.

Man, I actually slipped it and Samus Returns, but I do have a 2DS. I can still buy those by putting money on my account through my Switch, right?

The only Zeldas I haven’t played to completion are Zelda 1, 2, Minish Cap, and Twilight Hourglass, and Link Between Worlds. My favorites are Majora’s Mask, Breath of the Wild, and Twilight Princess.
People that disliked the Switch titles prefer the intricate puzzle-based dungeons and a tighter story. The whole game is a linear puzzlebox. It really looks like the series is turning away from this, with even Echoes of Wisdom showcasing a sandbox approach.
Personally, having played SO many Zelda titles that rigidly adhered to this, it’s good they’re mixing it up. There was a lot of ideas they had rehashed. And the indie space has rushed to fill the void, so Zelda enjoyers of all kinds are eating good.

Combat is a bit better after the first major patch, it added heavy attacks and some new weapon types. But if you didn’t enjoy the attack-dodge roll kind of gameplay, it doesn’t fundamentally change that.
But the updates did add a lot of little stuff all around the game
