- Comment on Japan’s Olympic athletes will wear outfits designed to block infrared cameras 6 days ago:
Some devices have unintentionally demonstrated how the infrared sensing used in night vision goggles and thermal cameras can reveal the unseen, like the OnePlus 8 Pro’s “Photochrom” color filter that worked like X-ray vision on the thin shell of an Apple TV. When used on people, infrared photography can reveal the lines of a person’s body or the undergarments they’re wearing beneath a thin layer of clothing, such as those worn by athletes.

The M.2 enclosure I have gets extremely hot during periods of extended use like installing an OS or transferring large amounts of data. Not sure if it’s a problem with other enclosures, but it’s something to consider.
- Comment on FCC bans cable TV industry’s favorite trick for hiding full cost of service 3 months ago:
This isn’t the worst offender I’ve seen, but it’s still bullshit. They should never be able to advertise it at $84.99 when there are $30.99 in required fees
- Comment on FCC bans cable TV industry’s favorite trick for hiding full cost of service 3 months ago:
I would hope this would also apply to the live TV streaming services like Hulu+live tv, Fubo, YouTube TV, etc. I looked into some of them, and the added fees took the monthly bill from like $83 a month to over $100 a month, but you don’t know that unless you read the disclaimers since they advertised it at $83 a month.

I kinda wish the government would recognize their sovereignty, and make them pass through customs every time they leave their property, cut off their public utilities, make them apply for a work visa…you know, give them the full experience.

Yeah it’s hard to have a good faith debate about a post that wasn’t made in good faith. Anyone who’s being intellectually honest wouldn’t try to equate these company mascots.
- Comment on AI Companies Lose $190 Billion After Dismal Financial Reports 4 months ago:
I was a huge fan. Watched it from season one on. Even had a House Stark banner. Now I don’t even think about it unless I see it mentioned on social media. Married with Children and Aqua Teen Hunger Force spontaneously pop into my mind 10 times more often than Game of Thrones.
- Comment on AI Companies Lose $190 Billion After Dismal Financial Reports 4 months ago:
I’ll never forgive D&D for what they did to that show. It was omnipresent in public consciousness for like a decade, and they fucked the last couple seasons so badly it’s now all but forgotten. It’s almost impressive in a depressing kind of way.
- Comment on Americans rack up $19 billion in credit card debt in one month 5 months ago:
My guess would be Gen X and older millennials. Old enough to have seen all the things their parents could afford so they want them for themselves. Seems like the younger crowd is less focused on gathering possessions. I base this on my observations as an older millennial, and have absolutely no scientific data to back it up.

I know, right?! I remember downloading a demo (or popping in a demo disc) that let you play like one mission or a set amount of time in a game. In the era of 120 GB downloads why can’t I download like 5 GB of the game and try it first?! The only answer I can come up with is that, much like the charlatans of old, they know a lot of it is shit so they have to grab your money and run.

I just figured with Lemmy’s interest in politics it seemed like an obvious example. I threw in the car because I didn’t want to be that guy who makes everything about nazis…
- Comment on Veteran Videogame Analyst: Subscription growth has flattened [in video games] 5 months ago:
All I want is a way to rent PC games before I buy them. Gamepass kinda works for that, but I REALLY don’t want yet another subscription service. I suppose I could buy them from Steam and request a refund if I don’t like it, but I hate paying that kind of money up front and downloading a 100 GB game just to turn around and refund it.

You’d have to firm up your definition of car and vehicle before you could decide that one. Does a hot wheels car count as a car? Does a vehicle have to be large enough to move people or freight?
- Comment on Is "If A then B" equal to "B if and only if A"? 5 months ago:
If Nazi, then fascist = true Fascist, if and only Nazi = not true
If car, then vehicle = true Vehicle if and only if car = not true

It’s been so long since I used it that I can’t remember if I had it wired or wireless. I’ll have to break it out and try it again.
