Everyone will benefit, but have to imagine relatively few will buy tools to actually take advantage of it.

Yeah I was curious about Apple selling data to brokers, which I think would be new news. For Meta yeah that was the ios14 update, which really messed with their bottom line apparently lol

Sorry Apple is selling user data to data brokers now?

- Comment on Reddit wants to raise $748M with IPO, sets value at $6.4B 8 months ago:
A Reddit user is $2 now, but they have terrible ad targeting. Reddit users volunteer troves of info about themselves, so even a modest effort to start tying all those user signals together could be a great boost that number (which really wouldn’t take much). Plus monetizing that base for LLM data and you got a stew going. They’ll of course make do the cash grabby enshitifying stuff too, but their user data is much more underutilized than facebooks at the moment.
- Comment on I've noticed my boomer parents using Instagram and tik tok. I can't tell you how excited I am for them to kill those platforms like they did facebook. 8 months ago:
It’s not splitting hairs, it’s a fundamental difference. My mother and my niece are friends on Facebook but they don’t follow each other on TikTok. Hell most people who are close friends IRL don’t even follow each other on TikTok. There’s no brand cache for old people to ruin its just a tool. Like
Sure kids will move on to something new eventually, but it’s waaaay more likely to be cause all the ‘eligible for commission’ videos make it feel like the Home Shopping Channel not cause old people (continue to) use it.

lol. I can’t tell if you just don’t know any young people or if it’s that you don’t know the difference between a social network and a short term video app. (Or you’re just mad cause tiktok = bad.)

Again, Facebook and TikTok operate differently. One is a social network, the other is a short form video platform. A social network is inherently dependent on its users. Did YouTube die when it became widely adopted??

I hate to break it you my not so tech savvy friend, but boomers on tiktok is not going to destroy tiktok like it did Facebook. The algo will basically only show their content to other boomers and young people will largely be unaware of it.

- Comment on Apple isn't happy about India's demand to upgrade older iPhones with USB-C 11 months ago:
Apple told the regulators that implementing the changes would mean it won’t be able to “meet the PLI targets,” minutes from the meeting state. PLI, India’s Production-Linked Incentive scheme, is a major project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, providing manufacturers with financial incentives for investments and incremental annual phone sales.
The use of USB-C in the iPhone 15 means Apple meets the criteria for the rules with its current-gen hardware. However, the bulk of its sales in India are based around older iPhone generations.
Apple says it can comply with a timeline for compliance by June 2025 if existing models are exempted from the rules. Otherwise, it would need another 18 months beyond 2024 if there isn’t an exemption.
- Comment on Job losses likely at VW as the people’s car brand becomes uncompetitive 11 months ago:
I know this is more about switching from ICE to electric, but this is kinda hilarious
Feedback about the company’s new capacitive multifunction steering wheel was so overwhelmingly negative that last year, Schaffer promised to ditch the design. Meanwhile, much of the range—both electric and gas-powered—is saddled with temperature and volume controls that are touch-sensitive but not backlit, making them all but impossible to use at night.
- Comment on US Question. Will the people that have to wait until 70 to get Social Security ever get what they paid in to it back out before they die since men's life expectancy is only 77 now? 11 months ago:
To that point SS is fully funded till about 2035 and then can pay out approx 75% of benefits after that. Removing that $160K cap would pretty much solve things.
