- Comment on NAS Power Consumption 5 hours ago:
Good point. I looked mostly at the spec sheet from the manufacturer and for example the Samsung 870 Evo vs Seagate IronWolf NAS Drive. Side note, AFAIK NVME drives have a higher power consumption. Especially PCIe 5.0.
My NAS with 2 HDDs from Seagate has a total powerdraw of around 30-40w. And I don’t spin the drives down.
- Latency of accessing files/loading times
- Lifespan reduction because of spin up / spin down Head moves (the most common for head crash, as I learned from my Teacher)
- Comment on NAS Power Consumption 1 day ago:
Most of the power draw is from the hdds. I have the same issue. If you want less power consumption. Invest in SSD or SSD and HDD hybrid where you store quick access files on SSD and rare access on hdd (then you can spin them down with timeout of , let’s say 30-60 min). This should save some energy

Hello fellow German. We also got free to use 3D printers in our city. This is a nice and cheap way for people to start getting creative but don’t have the money for a 1000€ machine.

Just different persons / mindsets. I bought a Prusa and in the first month replaced and modded everything I know of. Stabilizing it , replacing extruder gears and the nozzle , fine tuned some print settings. Why? I have fun doing so. And the time. Other people don’t, and that is completely fine.

Maybe a little out of context but this reminds me of the Sony Helldiver 2 situation. If people get loud enough they can infect change things. No one got loud or boycotted games that had Kernel level AntiCheat , this could have been avoided. Same with Bamboo I guess, if people still buy them after the Firmware and Cloud thing , it probably will happen again.

Many people don’t care about FOSS or don’t know the benefits, they just want a NOW working product. Many belief in the goodness that nothing bad will happen, and if something happens, they still can switch. I often have this discussion with other colleagues and friends, it’s an endless debate of price , features , comfort and support. As long as there is both on the market , why argue? People can buy what fits their needs.

They try to keep it as simple as possible so that really everyone can start printing if they like to. For our luck, we got companies like Prusa and Creality that still allow modifications and have a big community.

As of right now, Revolt does not feature any federation and it is not in our feature roadmap.
However, this does not necessarily mean federation is off the table, possible avenues are:
- Implement our own federation protocol
- Implement a promising up and coming federation protocol, polyproto
- Implement the Matrix protocol (unlikely, obtuse and unstable)
- Implement the XMPP protocol (battle-tested and stable)
Any federation that is implemented MUST exercise caution in:
- Preventing spam and abuse: moderators should be able to block malicious actors
- Protecting user data: users should be able to redact all of their information and messages

I like the Prusa mini. Good entry level printer. Not cheap with ~500€. But it is also easy to repair and upgrade compared to the MK3/4. The Bowden system means slower print speed but also easy repair. I upgraded mine with the Bondtech Gears. I don’t know if it fits on your list. Besides that it is small and one of the cheapest Prusa Printers, I see no benefit. (I have it because it fits in my room with the enclosure, now the CoreOne would be technically better but much more expensive)

I use both. I have NextDNS for mobile and PiHole for the local Intranet. A VPN to the home network for DNS did not work well enough for me.

I hope it becomes usable. If they hold there promise. Linux Wayland apps could be run through emulation layer, FreeBSD apps would run native and many MacOS apps should work out of the box.
