Help with our plant i am clueless

Firstly i admit i am clueless in plants so treat this 45 years old man like a kid when you explain stuff,

I get this last year she was getting bigger rapidly but was nice for the past 8 months. suddenly this middle big stem came from ground and started dying, yellow to brown leafs, i cut the first top part, then the lower leaves started turning brown and dead so my dad cut it like this.

I water it every two to three weeks with cup of human drinking water, or by touching the soil to see if its dry then i water it.

This is a zizi plant. Its one of the few that is fine in artificial light. A good one for offices where windows are limited.

It probably has root rot. Only need to water them once a month. Root rot occurs when you over water. Try repotting it. Carefully pull the while dirt ball out of the pot and check if the roots are mushy. The thicker parts should be solid. If its rotten then you need to cut that part off and repot in fresh dirt. You will probably lose a lot of the plant if that happens.

It’s time to re-pot it in something wider (but not necessarily deeper - these don’t put out many roots). Wait til the top soil is dry next and yank the whole thing out. Gently separate the rhizomes. Each one is its own individual plant. Give one to your dad. Toss out the dying part and make note if the rhizome was rotting. If the soil down there is still wet then you’re watering too often for this plant or it has poor drainage. Nurseries often don’t clean out material used in propagation so remove any rockwool or similar material and add some perlite and/or sand and mix it in to the remaining soil. Or ideally replace the soil entirely with a succulent potting mix. This plant can handle a lot of abuse. When you re-pot in the new soil you get to arrange the rhizomes however you want and can create something that looks entirely new. Just give the rhizomes a bit of distance from each other so they have room to breathe and grow.

  I wish i can do all of that my friend, but my gardening knowledge is very low.

  What was shocking to me is this plant breeds in an insane volume, at first i was not paying attention but then new branches keeps getting up on monthly basis.

    You should Google each of the above steps that you don’t already understand in the comment above and learn what they mean :) it’s basically like 70% of all plant keeping knowledge you’ll ever need.

    If you buy 2 bunnies and put them in a crate and a year later you have 20 bunnies, can you keep them all in the same crate?

You have a zz plant. I haven’t cared for one myself. They have a reputation for being extremely tolerant of low light and neglect. It sounds like you’re letting the plant dry out between waterings. Which is good. But I see a couple of yellow leaves at the bottom. That makes me wonder, does the plant have drainage holes? If it doesn’t the plant might be getting waterlogged when you water it. Even though you are letting it dey out over time, make sure there isn’t water sitting at the bottom

  That what the lady told me when i asked her for a plant that will not die because of me.
  
  I dont know if vas/pot have a drainage holes, but as you can see from the pic below, the pot is very big and heavy.
  
  How do i check for waterlogged.

    Unless there is a dish under it or your table gets wet when you water, there’s no drainage holes.

    It’s pretty difficult to check for water at the bottom of the pot. I’m someone has a tool or a way to do so. Honestly, if it were my plant, and the pot was plastic, i would buy a saucer for it and drill some holes in the bottom. I only have one planter without drainage holes. I have a smaller pot inside of it. So i can see when water flows through to the bigger one

Plants need light, water, and nutrients. Different plants need different amounts and different kinds, but they all need all three.

Double check that the plant is getting enough light. Our eyes are not good at figuring out how much light a plant needs. Plants will look okay for months and months until the low light catches up to them and they begin a slow decline.

I use dechlorinated water for all of my plants as that can affect plants, especially more sensitive ones.

After 8 months of growth, the soil might (?) be depleted.

  Thank you friend, Lights from chandelier is ok? i also think at day you can get good lighting from the window in my living room, or you mean i need to put it directly under the sun.

    No. Artificial light almost certainly isn’t sufficient unless it’s made for growing plants. Sun is your best bet. You can buy LED grow lights as well that might work.
