Under- car sensors is a great idea and the kind of innovation required for this tech to reach universal adoption. Waymo is already safer than human drivers IMO but let’s keep going until it’s significantly safer with verifiable data and capabilities humans cannot have. And we have to address its connection to big tech for “safety under fascism” purposes.

Is this man speaking literally? Sincerely held religious beliefs are fine, but you don’t claim reincarnation publicly and hope to be taken seriously. The survivor needs therapy but I doubt he’s getting it if this is his advisor.
- Comment on How come NK doesn't just come out and say we are in trouble and need help? Like their lack of food and stuff? I really don't see a downside for a country admit they were wrong and need help 1 week ago:
Capitalism is economic policy, not a governance system. You are committing the gravest sin leftists struggle with by conflating it with a power structure. They are not the same thing. Capitalism is not actually practiced anywhere in the world now, as oligarchy is the norm. The whole “capitalism vs socialism” argument has been conflated and abused to drive a wedge between Democrats and leftists in the USA.

The authoritarian ruler maintains control when enough people are brainwashed. See the current situation in the USA as an example. It’s not necessarily even the majority, but enough to maintain and enforce power.

This. Their entire system of authoritarian control depends on it. The people are brainwashed into believing it’s true and if cracks start to appear in the facade, the government could (and definitely would for NK) quickly lose control of the people. The regime would be toppled.

Everything is fluid over time. Every word, every construct changes. Sometimes human gender even changes, which Dawkins himself struggles to comprehend.

Why didn’t the world sanction Russia over Chechnya or China over Tibet? It has to have a certain impact on everyone before they’ll do anything.

If your friends always play Monopoly and you get dragged into it, do you refuse to have fun on principle? Or do you choose to have a blast with your friends, occasionally chuckle at the game’s shortcomings, and indulge in exploiting some of its weaknesses to ensure you come out on top? (That last one is optional and depends on you getting assigned to play the banker)

- Comment on Should you copy a person's accent when pronouncing their name? 1 month ago:
It’s normal to come across words you don’t know how to pronounce in your native language. When you do, you either ask someone for the pronunciation or stumble along until someone corrects you. Names are no different and you shouldn’t be made to feel ashamed by any earnest attempt to pronounce them. Forget about the accent and focus on the specific sounds involved in the name. If you cannot form sounds that are foreign to you, the owner of the name will likely help you pronounce it in the language you’re comfortable with. They are probably used to doing this.

This is the take-home point. They aren’t unaware there’s already a conversation. Their hubris compels them to believe they can answer these questions better than whatever the liberal establishment has come up with.

The models get 0% of the proceeds for one year and then 10% after that. After interviews and photos of the models, they get around to interviewing the CEOs of the companies doing this, and there’s an unchallenged narrative about why it’s fair and not exploitative. Shame on the BBC.
