This isn’t the onion ???
Is Fortnite still actively popular? I haven’t heard much about it for a long time.
The game had stabilized into a fun formula. It’s still pretty popular account kids. I play with other middle-aged dads and have a good time.
My best friend got my playing it, he started playing it with his 6 year old son. But since my friend died last year I only play when his son calls me to join him. Hearing this news I will be canceling my subscription however.
Sorry for your loss
As far as I can tell, this doesn’t have anything to do with Epic Games, the developers. Shell was paying twitch streamers directly to promote their initiative through playing Fortnite.
My nephew and his friends has been obsessed with it for a year now. He’s 9. They are still releasing seasons and skins I have to buy for him. The relatively recent Futurama ones were cool.
Yes, very
Tim Sweeney taking cash from yet another morally questionable source after Tencent? Why does this surprise me so little.

Imagine being like, mildly famous and wealthy.
Kind of at the point of your fantasy where you would start helping others because you’re a “good person!” so you will buy you mom a house. She did everything for you after all. You do a couple of those things and then it’s like… you know what I’m going to take money from big oil.
like what the FUCK. During a record breaking summer!!! And If I remember correctly the last 2 or more summers were also record breaking!
And the American winters are either warmer than usual or colder. Wait sorry I’m high what was the subject? Video games? Lol

But what if I want to become a streamer and then have a questionable relationship with a teenager half my age (technically legal but still dodgy), while also promoting my own gambling site and energy drink? Oh, and a pay to win Minecraft server.
What if that’s my actual goal. It’s okay then right?

Wow buddy let’s not insult cretins by comparing them to twitch streamers.

Never got the appeal of paying to watch internet randos faff about to begin with, so screw streamers in general?

It’s like watching sports, except you also have someone cracking jokes and being effectively a stand-up comedian.
But also, you’re assuming people always actively watch, which is not always the case. I tend to play a game on my main stream, whole having a stream (or vod) open on another.
In addition, it’s also a bit like hanging out with a friend and watching them play. It’s basically sharing stuff and experiences with others, which is fun, even if you’re not a direct participant.
…and also, as the other commenter mentioned, there are games which you don’t really want to play, but are still interesting to watch.

There’s some games I want to see, but don’t want to purchase or climb the learning wall or whatever. That said, I prefer vods to live streams.

Some of the vtubers I follow are functionally stand up/improve comedians or music performers.
