I really appreciate seeing an article written by someone who is actually familiar with the culture and history of the site.
Qanon and Actual Nazis were not 4chan norm back in the day. The alt right nazi hateful shit was posted but it was more like larping/shock value immature crap and nothing like what we see in the mainstream social/media today. Misogyny too. I’m not denying that there weren’t people there who meant it but it was 99% shitposting. There’s also the hacktivism, social activism, soooooooo many memes like as substantial as YouTube as establishing the humor culture of the internet. I find the site so fascinating and much more than some cesspool of evil it became.
It is weird it is gone. I suspect moot is not so interested in sticking his neck and wallet out to protect the freedom of speech for facscists trying to destroy democracy and that’s why it’s not back. I’m pretty sure 4chan has been down before for various reasons more substantial than hacking but it could be fabricated memory

The difference is this is tracking and targeting minors.
And just because it is the status quo does not mean the general public is aware of it or the actual extent. It needs to be spelled out to them how and why.
Honestly I find it hard to believe any teens are on Facebook now, maybe IG is still cool? Nothing like before. Idk I don’t think teens are on those platforms really

Ignored? Yeah I suppose so, but they sure as shit used the data for their own gain. That team really was the road of good intentions

Thank you so much! I know I should play NV but it’s also painful, a dear friend I lost was really into it and I associate it with him. And games being too open can be overwhelming for me. Decision fatigue. But I still think I should try it and all the info you have provided was very helpful for when I do, thank you again.

That is a difficult question to answer but I will say I am confident I completed the story and I had zero interest in ng+ for any reason. It felt extremely repetitive to me and I never got good at it or anything for it to be rewarding.

I would love to tell you but my last pc was win7 and the newest windows is not intuitive for me. I can’t explain it except that things that should and have been simple for me aren’t anymore. I couldn’t even guess where to go in settings to get that info. I really really hate this os I’d love to figure out how to dual boot Linux and just not deal with windows except for gaming. Sorry old person drunk rant about tech…

I haven’t been able to even* load* Facebook or X because of some privacy/security setting I must have enabled. Before that fb wouldn’t let me see anything without an account and X was pulling really similar stunts, requiring an account for full access, although usually you could read the tweet and a few replies maybe.
It is absolutely bullshit for ALL the information to be on a social media post. I’ve definitely gotten them before with age and suspect/vehicle or something, and Twitter would have photos and further details like last seen location and clothes.
