  both works are not written well.

  …and dune was so hard to get into. Don’t hit me with it all at once! at least take me out for dinner first!

  Herbert basically put all his kinks into his later books. I don’t think Tolkien would like that.

  I’d read a Herbert rewrite of LotR. I don’t think it would be better, but it would be extremely interesting.
