More like “US: Continuing the imperialism we spend the entire 19th century doing”.
- Comment on Modern earth is candy land compared to the planet we had 500+ years ago m’dude 2 weeks ago:
If you are literally starving or dying from a preventable disease without access to healthcare, it doesn’t really matter if it is happening now or 1000 years ago, the result is exactly the same.
Claiming that every human on Earth lives better than 100 years ago is not only objectively wrong, but rings of the “even our homeless here in the US lives better than the richest person in Africa” ignorant nonsense some people likes to spew.

It’s nostalgia if you enjoy them.
That is a curious biased claim while simultaneously trying to push subjectivity.
I think most people enjoy them because it is great music. You may not like them, that is also fine, but you claiming that people only like them because of nostalgia is some grade A bs.
- Comment on Scientists detect a sharp acceleration in global warming 2 weeks ago:
They have the effect of massively increasing our energy consumption at a time when we desperately need to cut down on it. Just to mention one thing in the slew of disastrous things this AI bubble is causing to our ability to just do the bare minimal to counter our climate disaster.
- Comment on “Sir HMS Invincible has exploded.” 2 weeks ago:
It is pretty impressive that they apparently managed to get the ship moved into Jutland.
- Comment on The Early Medieval in Popular Culture 4 weeks ago:
It varies depending on locality.
In Scandinavia for example the medieval period starts after the end of the Viking Age around the middle of the 11th century. 500-800 is the Germanic Iron Age (in Sweden it is called the Vendel period).

No such thing as an European inch. It varied from country to country.
- Comment on The only woman on the Declaration of Independence 1 month ago:
More like an attempt at buying forgiveness. The fact that she waited to free her slave until she was dead pretty much cancels out any attempt at making this a benevolent action.

Same with “inuit”.
- Comment on The US Army was literally mutinying to get out of Vietnam 1 month ago:
I think in another timeline it could have been one of the nation’s greatest accomplishments
How on Earth would an aggressive colonialist war ever have been one of the US greatest achievements in any way? The entire premise of the war was fundamentally flawed and wrong, a military and/or political victory would not have changed that in the slightest.

Sucked for the slaves, since instead of being freed in 1848 when France abolished slavery (for the second time), they had to wait until 1865, and even then they still had to live in the literal apartheid which was the Jim Crow South for a century more.

Danish disketter as well.

Except for the “constantly having to worry whether one of them will finally succumb to their right wing extremist parties” part.
- Comment on To be fair, Napoleon did ended up disappointing in 1802 when he reinstated slavery in the French colonies, but even so, this was a big W from his part 2 months ago:
That is how it went in the other colonial empires, including Britain though. In fact while the UK abolished slavery in 1837, it only finished paying off its debt of reparation to slaveowners in 2015.
But it should be mentioned that Napoleon also reinstated slavery after he became emperor, so I highly doubt he abolished it on Malta for personal convictions.
- Comment on The Empire is Responsible for the Imperial System 2 months ago:
And by “making their own” they put a wig and a pair of sunglasses on the British Imperial system.
- Comment on The real Atlantis was the metaphors we ignored 2 months ago:
The problem with Thera being Atlantis is that both Herodotus (who lived and wrote some decades before Plato was born) and other ancient writers mentions the island, but they don’t mention anything about it being connected to the myth of Atlantis. Which is something you would have expected especially Herodotus to have mentioned if that was the general belief at the time.

Not a lot of blitzkrieg would be going on. The tanks would be rolling along, and then someone yells “Stop! we have to wait for the AT-AT to catch up!”.
