TBF, there are a lot more things we need to learn and memorize today than back then. The odyssey could literally be like one of two things of media or entertainment in a persons life back then.

A bit of a spoiler but they weren’t entirely wrong about that plan.
- Comment on Why is NERV hiring literal teenagers to pilot the EVAs?! 2 days ago:
I think there was a canonical reason like brain-elasticity allowing the pilot to interface with the EVA (which was actually problematic in some cases so they had to install a 1 directional filter for the teen to pilot the EVA and not vice-versa).
Also, pretty sure the EVA are literally crafted from the hybridization of DNA and godflesh and uses the pilot’s own mother as a base. It’s symbolic of the mother protecting their unborn child from the horrors of the outside world, including from their own father in Shinji’s case, but ultimately failing and all the characters developing trauma as a result. So if it were adults the symbolism would be mostly lost.

- Comment on The US Army was literally mutinying to get out of Vietnam 5 weeks ago:
Vietnam was in the middle of a civil war between a brutal dictatorship aligned with the eastern bloc and a brutal republic aligned with France and the USA.
I will always stand against autocracy. The USA and France failed to protect South Vietnam.
In the good timeline, North Vietnam fell. In a better timeline they exist in careful balance similar to thr Korean peninsula.
- Comment on The US Army was literally mutinying to get out of Vietnam 5 weeks ago:
IMO the reason the USA lost in Vietnam is because of:
A) Inadequate treatment of the Vietnamese civilians, often targeting them instead of attempting to convert them, and generally not investing into necessary infrastructure.
B) Terrible incompetent top-level leadership prolonging the war for years for personal gains.
I think in another timeline it could have been one of the nation’s greatest accomplishments, instead it is among their greatest shames.

Never going back. Linux is just better. Never crashes, startup from shutdown state takes seconds, I have way more control over my PC.

That whole clip of OJ Simpson adding attachments to his gun until it ends up like this is pretty funny. I also like the nod to him in the new movie where all the officers are crying in front of their father’s portraits except for the OJ Simpson one where the guy’s just like “nah” and walks away from it.

I imagine this person, and most modern humans, would not survive in a low-tech situation. The show “Naked and Afraid” is pretty good to get an understanding of why: not enough food. You “win” the show by surviving as a duo for 21 days, contestants have been failed for minor cuts and sleeping under a poisonous tree, among other issues.
The most successful dude I’ve ever seen on the show got put on an island covered in mice. His strategy involved setting up some rocks and the mice kept knocking the rocks over and killing themselves, which he would then prepare to eat. His co-survivor actually complained that he was catching so many mice that it was keeping her up at night. One of the only contestants to ever gain weight. He did get some leg cramps while swimming to the rescue near the end, otherwise 9/10 performance.
