… since founder Jamie Siminoff returned, the company has renewed its focus on using its products to prevent crime.
Siminoff said he came back because of the possibilities AI brings. With this technology, he believes neighborhood cameras could be used to virtually “zero out crime” within a year.

I’m guessin this is bait, but anyways:
- human emotions have cognitive (as well as physiological) components that interact in ways we don’t yet understand. For example, if two people listen to a song that they enjoy, one person’s memories may be wistful and another’s may be tinged with a negative emotion, and each of these will trigger different physical reactions (which will themselves trigger cognitive responses, etc.)
- “The happiness you experience from eating is the same as the happiness from cocaine.” lel, no: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocaine#Pharmacodynamics
- That being said, there is something called “loving-kindness meditation” which encourages intentional benevolence for all things and is kinda in the spirit of this post: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maitr%C4%AB#Mett%C4%81_meditation

If someone can manipulate a search engine to provide results different to what it would otherwise do, that’s a bug they will fix
But there are more people manipulating the results, than people fixing the bugs.

- Comment on we need more users 5 weeks ago:
that site is odd… looks like we have to go to https://lemmyverse.net/ and THEN click “communities”…
- Comment on we need more users 5 weeks ago:
Yeah, feeds are neat bc they’re user-curated, they’re easy to copy, and you can easily tell which communities are active.
Your proximetry metrics is a good idea too, I bet it would work best in a tool like the Lemmy Explorer: https://lemmyverse.net/communities
- Comment on we need more users 5 weeks ago:
Here’s my approach: over the holidays I suggested lemmy to 3 people I know. I did so by emailing or texting them links to the following piefed feeds of lemmy communities:
The first is non-political, non-tech, low-meme communities (tho sometimes those topics sneak in.) The second is non-political, non-tech meme/humor communities. One peson said they thought it was neat, the other said they bookmarked it, the third didn’t say anything. Dunno if they joined.

Most countries have some kind of “disaster preparedness” suggestions, be they for earthquakes, floods, tornados, WMDs, etc. A lot of these suggestions overlap: have a stock of food, know where important documents are, think about where you’d shelter, etc.
There will probably not be an extinction-level event. But at some point in your life you may experience an emergency where you need a stock of food, to know where your documents are, to have a place to shelter, etc. So maybe it’d help you out to make plans for what you’d do in case of a general emergency/disaster.
Here are a couple useful documents that were made in the US:

This reminds me of when I was a kid growing up (in developing nations), and people would show up from the US demanding all the same services that they had back home.

Was gonna say this. Some jobs will help pay for classes (max 1 at a time) and some will even let you take the classes “on company time.” With Distance Education this is easier than ever. I took classes while working for a couple years, then was gonna take a semester off work and finish a Master’s Degree. (but ended up doing a PhD instead.)

Traditional German food is supposed to make you sated so you can go back to the fields and work! And the go to the army and fight! And then go to the ruins and rebuild!
This is frickin awesome. Ima tell this to my German-American relative. They come from a family of farmers, come to think of it.
