What I want to know is what happened to the 54% that went into live-action; did any Japanese films break out in the last few years?
Godzilla Minus One is really the only thing in recent years that has broken out. It’s weird that anime is such a huge part of my life, but I’ve seen more Bollywood films than live action Japanese films in the last 10 years (excluding old samurai films, of course).
The fix is quite simple.
But I don’t think our [aging] asinine population is ready to ask the question required to get compensated correctly.

I read the article thinking surely this must be hyperbole. Nope. It’s 100% what the title says. The government has no idea how anime “works” and is thinking about direct subsidies to creators, but it’s fucking wild to me that my favorite tentacle porn artist is living off his patreon alone.
