How America determines which universities to fund
which tracks entirely, the city as a whole exists purely to extract as much $ off of kids in the interests of private equity

Might be another one of those fly-by-night accounts.
I mean this is just a good post even if the user is sus. I’ve learned lots of stuff by watching MIT online classes.
Yeah, the content of the post is fine, it’s just this community in particular has been getting a slew of spam accounts that delete themselves within an hour or a day of being created.
I live in Boston. The Greater Boston region genuinely cares more about education than any of other place I’ve lived in the US. Keep in mind that studying here, at any of the Universities, for higher education is ridiculously expensive - partly because so many people compete to be here.
Things like these are why we need to fund higher education. A knowledgeable populace brings innovation, a healthy economy, and diversity which creates a feedback loop for all of it
Love Boston culture. It’s like a drunk Irishman, an angry Jamaican, and an intelligent Rob Gronkowski all in one
It took me ages to correctly understand the US expression “in the world”. It doesn’t literally mean that something is the “best in the entire world”, it usually means it is US American and/or pretty good.
Except, it is one of the best engineering schools in the world.
Except when it does in fact mean best in the entire world
Only in “international university rankings” that treat essentially classes being given in the English language as about 1/3 of the score or as they call it, “easiness for international students”.
Or in other words, “for international students” they’re one of the best in the World, to a large extent because all lessons are in English - all else being the same, universities in English-speaking countries will always come above universities in non-English speaking countries.
Also a lot of the other quality metrics (such as number of published papers) actually measure research proeficiency rather than teaching quality, which whilst relevant for post-grads, isn’t quite as relevant for most students.
Whether if measured from the point of view of the main student community they serve rather than “international post-grad student” MIT is the best in the World is unclear.
That’s because your education isn’t the best in the anywhere.
Harvard also has free courses online!
Any computer science courses? I’d love to take an intro to Linux, intro to network hacking, C++, or Python class.
Neither of those are computer science
I took a class on Unix/Linux in college for Computer Science and cyber security absolutely is too.
They are good, but… they use chalkboards, in 2026. The ABSOLUTE worst Misophonia, ever, via headphones.
Chalkboards and the sound of a marker on paper are the most awful sounds
Disagree, organic sounds like that are comforting.
I dunno I prefer chalk myself personally, but im bot sensitive to sounds so not detracting from your point.
They are a CIA training institution
Agreed…but they also do a lot of useful engineering/math work, and they’re giving it away for free (well if you’re AmeriKKKan you already paid for it, but now you get to access the thing you paid for).
I agree.
What American uni isn’t?
I also agree, 💯!

Just saying

We should start using “my friend Anna” similarly to “friend of Dorothy” but for books.
