As much as we hate the ‘old guard’ and as much damage as they continue to do to the world, in a way they are protecting us.
There is no way the tiktok/instagram/twitter generation has enough foresight and appreciation for human life to avoid pushing the nuclear button when they’re in control.
The generation that is most aware of climate change and social justice, that wants a more free and equitable society for all? The generation that’s had to watch the decline of Western powers through unrelated capitalism? That generation lacks foresight?

After working with high school kids for a while I can tell you that the climate and social justice talk is mostly performative. Also way rapey-er than I remember us being in the early 00s.
After working with high school kids for about 10 years I can say the complete opposite.

I would press the nuke button if I could right now; which is exactly why I’m not the one in control of it. There’s a reason why all armies are extremely careful when it comes to handling nuclear weapons.

The old generation is always the best and new generations are always bad. What we call the bad generation depends on the decade or century when you ask. This seems to be one of the constants of human existence.
