And I’m Canadian, so it’s already almost $105… We’re talking $120 if it goes to 90 USD. Noooo thanks.
- Comment on Switch 2 mouse mode (such potential) 1 day ago:
Meh is my reaction, mostly if the games are $80 USD.
- Comment on EU considers tariffs on digital services Big Tech 1 day ago:
Yes. Tech billionaires are the ones who stood behind Trump proudly on inauguration day, so let’s start using Canadian/European options. Plenty of them match what those tech companies offer anyway.
- Comment on Switch 2 mouse mode (such potential) 1 day ago:
I mean… A gaming mouse is probably cheaper than the controller alone lol

Good ol’ Blackberry baby!

- Comment on Why are Maries Sues hated while Gary Stus are loved? 2 weeks ago:
And I hate Superman for that reason.
The hate on Captain Marvel was a bit over the top, but the movie was mid at best. So it didn’t deserve praise, but didn’t deserve the vitriol of fragile dudes either. Just for me it wasn’t good for the same reason Superman wasn’t good.
- Comment on What would happen if the Supreme Court sent a US Marshall to arrest a member of the executive branch? 2 weeks ago:
I think we’re also forgetting the US Supreme Court probably wouldn’t even do anything resembling enforcing the constitution, as demonstrated by the 5-4 decision lately (barely respected the constitution)
- Comment on Why I recommend against Bluesky. 2 weeks ago:
The devs also made it clear that if ever bsky became crap, the system is made so that you could just jump over to another instance and go from there.
So far so good, but yeah I get it, the more they talk about investors, the more I’m reluctant to jump in fully.
- Comment on Why I recommend against Bluesky. 2 weeks ago:
it’s not yet federated properly, or would not be completely, but it’s still a good player in the game for now. I’ll advocate against it if shareholders start shenanigans.
- Comment on US classifies South Korea as ‘sensitive country,’ limiting cooperation on advanced tech. 2 weeks ago:
The number of countries that don’t fit on the left is decreasing every day.
- Comment on Microsoft accidentally removed Copilot in the latest Windows 11 update. 2 weeks ago:
Oh that’s awesome.
- Comment on US classifies South Korea as ‘sensitive country,’ limiting cooperation on advanced tech. 2 weeks ago:
So the US wants to become dead last in technology by allowing monopolies that have no reason to innovate and blocking any cooperation with nations who spend money on innovation and tech.
Good luck in the future, it’s like Obama said about shortsightedness.
- Comment on YSK: some places it is a crime to ask questions 3 weeks ago:
Authoritarianism is by the leader of a state or a territory, not by some random dude on Lemmy. Seriously go read the Wikipedia page at least.
- Comment on YSK: some places it is a crime to ask questions 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, but it amounts to asking “why is slavery bad?” You can understand why people, mostly as it is rising across the world, aren’t exactly happy that it’s even a question.
I said it’s a stupid question, not that you’re stupid BTW. But a quick Wikipedia read is enough to see that it’s not good news that many countries are kinda heading that way.
- Comment on YSK: some places it is a crime to ask questions 3 weeks ago:
You’re defying the goal of the group by asking a quite stupid question. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, etc. They caused a lot of suffering, destroyed the foundations of democracy for their own gain, and you’re at the whims of if someone knows what they’re doing, because they consult almost nobody.
- Comment on [deleted] 3 weeks ago:
Then so should authoritarianism

I was about to suggest that as well.
- Comment on Looks like Instagram wants some of Discord's market. 4 weeks ago:
I’d wager another better alternative will come up that’ll be like Discord, get great traction, then go public, then enshitify. The cycle of crap software continues until a FOSS option appears.

Once you have shareholders, users don’t matter anymore, you serve them instead.

- Comment on uhh… my ex girlfriend and long-time friend is now cishet, very christian, and makes those “i identify as” jokes regarding trans people. would it end up bad for me if i continued to be her friend? 4 weeks ago:
It depends on who your other friends are. It doesn’t reflect well on you overall, I’d say, buy at the end of the day, having self respect means walking away when someone is this needlessly abrasive
- Comment on Nintendo wins piracy lawsuit against file-sharing site 4 weeks ago:
Valve isn’t perfect but they’ve been more often than not the good guy. Just recently, the TF2 community wanted more freedom to make full-fledged mods of their own, so Valve released the source code and allowed free standalone mods to be listed on the Steam store.

- Comment on Nintendo wins piracy lawsuit against file-sharing site 4 weeks ago:
Nintendo can’t stop suing. It’s simply time to stop giving them money, cuz they’re pissing it away on lawsuits against websites that are making available games Nintendo refuses to sell us.
- Comment on Why are entertainers paid so much? 4 weeks ago:
Here’s what it comes down to: negotiations based on how much money the industry makes from their work. Because without the artist, comedian, etc., their profit vanish.
Now understand that every worker in the world could realise the same thing. That’s what unions are for, having that weight to give the employees of a company leverage and ask for a bit more of the pie that wouldn’t exist without their work. Why do you think businesses fight unions so damn hard? Because it’s easier to distract or scare enough of a worker group, mostly compared to a single artist.
