If you were a superhero and you knew a 21- to 23-year-old dating older people, what would you do?

I had this debate with my friend. I told him that if I had superpowers, like if I were Superman, and I personally knew a 21-, 22-, or 23-year-old dating adults who were 10 or 15 years older, I’d use my powers to stop the relationship and force them to date people their own age, even if they didn’t want to. My friend said that would make me a tyrant, not a superhero. What do you think?

Read DC’s Injustice (3 volumes) or just watch the film (less than 2 hours), and you’ll realise why you’re wrong.

But why?

I would understand a 4yo dating a 30yo maybe, or a situation of abuse of power or violence, but a 22yo dating a 37yo while unusual, unless hides an abuse of power or violence, doesn’t need you to mess with.

Let the guys live that relationship out, it’s their life, not yours, they are both of age and presumely responsible for themselves.

  My partner and I started dating when I was 23 and he was 35 and while I don’t think OP is in the right, I really feel like we stretched the bounds of what was ok. I still had a lot of learning the basics of being an adult, and he had to put up with some incredibly immature shit from me. We’ve been together 13 years now so I don’t regret it, but I do cringe and worry when I see others following in my footsteps.

  Yeah if I was going to use superpowers to target anyone’s sex life, it’d be to stop actual pedophiles and not adults in consenting (yet sometimes maybe ethically questionable) relationships.
