Two weeks notice is a courtesy to keep things civil so you can use them as a reference. It’s not a legal requirement, the only consequence for not giving notice is that you won’t get a good reference, but if you don’t care about that then be free.

As a general rule of thumb - fuck 2 weeks notice. Do companies give you any notice before they derail your life?

One of the best bosses I had ever had gave me six weeks of notice cause the hospitality industry was facing one of many downturns. He gave me enough time to get something so seamlessly lined up that the only day I was actually unemployed was new years.
It’s definitely not the standard, though.

They should. Or at bare minimum give the employees enough visibility into the company performance that employees can make good informed decisions (like the company has lost money 3 months in a row and the sales pipe is light - employees can at least determine if they need to start looking).

My company made billions, beat projections. Still laid off 5,000 people. Fuck corporations

I mean, if you want them to tell future employers you’re ineligible for rehire, go ahead and forego the 2 weeks notice.
It sucks, but they have all the power.
