These aren’t too different from the novel adaptations of movies we’d get at the Scholastic Book Fair.
They gave my kids a stepping stone from short children’s books to chapter books so it’s not all bad.

I agree. Some kids need extra motivation to get them to practice reading so it really shouldn’t matter how dumb the subject matter seems. Whatever gets them to open a book and practice is good.
