The fae operate on a different set of rules. The Tooth Fairy can only take teeth that are freely offered. The dead cannot consent.
The kid asks a great question

They could consent prior to death. They could even bequeath them to the tooth fairy.
In fact …I’m redoing my will right now…I’m gonna add it.

little did CosmicTurtle know but this would spark the reignition of the Fae Wars as the elves were introduced to the human tradition of “futures trading”

The tooth fairy only wants children’s teeth. Have you checked any child graves recently for teeth?

but who here would eat a spider?
knacht1@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I knew a guy that would do that. He eventually ended up in the hospital after gulping the wrong spider. The things that you do while bored work at building a nuclear power plant.

They eat the teeth. You gonna dig up and eat a decades old deer corpse and eat it?

My favorite tale is that the rat king takes the teeth. He trades in secrets which are stored in the teeth and children have an uncanny ability to over hear things that not even rats can learn, so he pays the children based off the quality of the secrets. You also can’t lie because lies damage the teeth and the rat king won’t pay as much.

They’re not fresh. The fairy demands the freshest teeth but long ago ancient humans made a pact with the tooth fairy. In exchange for humanity to cease its hunt of the tooth fairy, the TF will stop hunting children in their sleep to pursue the freshest and most desirable teeth. Centuries later, with the advent of capitalism, the humans rebelled and demanded compensation for the teeth to be given to the children. The TF, seeing the advancement of human warfare capacity quickly agreed to a small stipend per child in order to continue its harvesting.

In 1282 AD, an accord followed the disaster later recounted as the Pied Piper of Hamelin myth, in which a warg working with the demonic entity we now call the “Tooth Fairy” walked 200 children off a cliff simply to collect their fresh teeth to fuel their evil orgies. Duke Albert II of Saxony hired a shaman and witch to force a détant with the demon as a response. After some haggling, which cost one advisor his jaw, the demon agreed to effectively scavenge from the local townspeople in the night in exchange for a ceremonial pittance, often a handful of grain or a piece of fruit.
The demon, now overwhelmed by the sheer volume of teeth lost on a daily basis by 7.5 billion people, is doing great 750 years later, playing the long game to success.
