I think it’s at the very least true in the sense they’re both things many people can’t afford
Absolutely true!

“Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things – air, sleep, dreams, sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.”

Is that aa bad thing? coming from a introvert, but exploring the world is not a bad thing. Most things written just feel like someone too afraid of things to change. That could be a personal choice, but definitely should not be generalised. You learn different cultures, experience different worlds, get different perspectives, etc.
quoting from AVtar the las air bender (not sure if i remember verbatim, but i hope i am close)
You should learn from all nations, if you do not, your information gets old and stale Uncle Iroh
And I love Iroh, so heavily biased

Cool. Is this your way of telling me that you’re going to pay for me to go traveling? That would be great, thanks 👍
tomi000@lemmy.world 1 week ago
So I get youre bitter that you cant afford travelling, but how is that OPs fault? Doesnt make the statement less true.
MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 1 week ago
I’m not particularly bitter about it, it’s just a fact of life at the moment. What I do take exception to though are people who like to condescendingly suggest that all life’s problems could be solved by just heading to the Caribbean or Europe for a few weeks. If I could afford to just pick up and go wherever whenever I felt like it then most of my issues would already be resolved lol

Disconnecting for your stressful daily routine is therapy.
You don’t need to make a 16h plane flight to achieve that.
Ajen@sh.itjust.works 1 week ago
You also don’t need a 16h plane flight to travel. It can be MUCH cheaper, and shorter.
sga@lemmings.world 5 days ago
nobody said it has to be a 16h flight, it could be a picnic or camping, at a place which is a 2-3 hours walk, or 1 hr drive

Eh, I upvoted. Sure traveling the world is neat and all, and I would if I could, but traveling to a nearby national Park or something like that for the weekend costs nothing but gas and time and the chance to “touch grass” is worth it. I’d wager that most people have a neat spot locally that they’ve never visited, I have a few of those myself that I’m aware of.

Can someone explain to me why the OP got downvoted to oblivion?
zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 1 week ago
Poor quality posts get down voted. That’s the point. It’s faux inspirational garbage and nothing of interest or value.
Plus op double posted.

I see

Cuz traveling is (usually) prohibitively expensive.
MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 1 week ago
I love it. I know I’m lucky enough to make it happen. OT at work isn’t a bad thing when it’s vaca $$.
FriendOfDeSoto@startrek.website 1 week ago
This is something that is not universally true. You would not say something like that if you’ve ever traveled with small children.
sga@lemmings.world 5 days ago
I am sorry for your experiences, but my mother would differ. I know we (my sibling) were a pain in my parents’ ass, but our journeys are one of her most cherrished memories. I understand as parent it is not as stress free , you have to worry about safety and comfort of children, many times above your own, but I think that is a part of parents life, they have to bear this pain, but some parents also consider this not a pain, but cherrish this, they enjoy the cute moments.

Sure, if I want to end up in El Salavador on the way back home
Not to mention, there are theives everywhere in tourist hotspots (in every country, no exceptions)
Also, you can’t really bring cats on vacations
Vacations cannot fix brain chemicals
sga@lemmings.world 5 days ago
I am not rich, and I do not get paid vacations, and I do not go to vacations often, but I still agree, it can help disconnect from life stresses. Money is a factor here, and we have not always been lucky in this, but sometimes, just a nearby place where you could get for cheap can be just as effective. You can choose to not to live in a expensive hotel.
ObtuseDoorFrame@lemm.ee 1 week ago
Poor people are fucking sick of hearing this shit. Especially as an unfortunate resident of the USA. I get no paid vacation whatsoever. I have to pay for my vacations twice; once for the vacation itself and again because I’m not working.
