    Explanation: The Renaissance was a time of great progress in Europe with regards to specialization, technical proficiency, anatomical knowledge, and cultural appreciation. This gave rise to a (small) professional artist class which created many of the great works of the period, many of which are still admired today. One of the great patrons in this period was the Catholic Church…

    … which sometimes clashed with the very, uh, ‘interested’ depictions of the human body preferred by said artist class. But once the work is completed, what can you do about it, really? :)

      What you do is you nail little marble fig leafs onto the parts of marble you don’t want people to see.

      And then you continuously yell at tourists to shut the heck up while they admire the pretty picture on your ceiling.
