I’m afraid America had it’s one chance and we voted him in. Hopefully we get another

I admire your commitment, but it won’t be one apocalyptic battle, it’ll be a long protracted war. So like hydrate and stretch and shit. Make time in your life for meaningful organizing.

Unless somebody has a better idea, an app or other method of tracking the last known location of fascists would likely be helpful for others.seeking to debate ideology with them.

As usual, the hard part will be agreeing upon when someone is officially a fascist worthy of such… debate.

Those who are the most influential should be helpful enough.

Where are people organizing?
match@pawb.social 1 year ago
50501 protests and then hook up with whatever local group you like

This is not inspiring. Enough jokes.

If you study countries that became fascist or dictatorships, power was never gained on a single day.
Like pre-WWII Germany, Hitler won an election yes, but he didn’t become a dictator on day one. Same with Putin.
It’s all the actions following, and the US can still combat it. But the odds are obviously against it now that Trump ‘owns’ every CEO of every single social media.
It’s the same as silencing your political opponents, just with extra steps.

It’s hard to say exactly where the Rubicon is:

Your right that this has been an at least 9 year effort (at minimum, with blocking Obama’s SC choice) There will likely will be 1 event he uses to declare a state of emergency and pull powers from the legislature to have direct access for things. That will either be a war he has started with another country, or a civil uprising within the country. Either way the straw that permanently brakes us will exist but sits stop a large stack
Mr_Fish@lemmy.world 1 year ago
No. There’s always another chance. As long as at least one person is capable of thinking against fascism, there’s still hope.
But don’t take this as an excuse to do nothing. Every chance to push back that is missed is more damage done.

I’d say you’re partially correct on this. Most Americans yes. Very much. Though some of us have been playing the game for a long time. For example I had the possibility of stopping a coup or preventing it. I sent the information to the emergency email but due to how soon it would happen. I posted it on X leveraging global attention to pressure Trump to postpone events. I encourage you and anyone else to contact the emergency line of the UN with this header. EMERGENCY, THE DOWNFALL OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY. So they know it’s the same topic.

Lots of chances. In WI we have supreme Court votes in April. Getting another democrat in has to happen so our disctrict Mal’s can be redrawn.
I honestly believe that WI voted for Harris and ttump/musk conned this state or rigged the votes.

Apathy got Trump how victory. Lies and apathy. A third of voting age adults didn’t do their duty.

Nah, there will be hundreds of opportunities. You take the one you can. Resist at all costs.
makyo@lemmy.world 1 year ago
This, OP - this is the right answer. Take all the opportunies you can. AOC recently said it best: you won’t regret anything you try. Some of it won’t work but if we all work now and keep trying things we can make a difference.
In the 1930s in Germany there was a group that basically tasked itself with the protection of democracy and they waited for a signal from leadership that never came. Because leadership was waiting for the one moment. Don’t wait, try things.
But what, you say, well we’re in uncharted territory now but: join activist groups, protest, make memes, call your congresspeople, if you’re in the gov’t somewhere - gum up the works, if you have money - give to liberty advocates, think of things I haven’t thought of here and do them, and bring friends.
The important thing is that we all do something, and keep doing something. They can only win when we let them.

In the style of “Deny. Delay. Depose.” I keep thinking we could use something similar to commit to our cause.
I was toying with something like “Refuse. Resist. Rebel.” maybe? Like, refuse to go with their plans, resist when they try to enact them, and rebel against action they take. I’m still work-shopping it.
Reclaim is another word I thought about putting there. Like, reclaiming control, but that’s also a bit more of a nebulous concept than sabotage.
Refuse. Resist. Reclaim.
match@pawb.social 1 year ago
at my local protests i’m already already seeing “deny defend depose” as per Luigi
FilthyHookerSpit@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I think your Rs are good, I think Rebel, Resist, Refuse might roll off the tongue better (I think)

That chance was Nov '24, not sure what you mean?
Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 1 year ago
So I wasnt on the sidelines? That brings some comfort.
CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
Voters blew it. It’s 1000 cuts from here, so there will still be plenty to defend and resist. But many people seem to be waiting for some big event, but that election was, for all intents, the event. Thanks for showing up.
