  Schools in the US often have a police officer on campus known as an SRO — a School Resource Officer. They’re about as useful as you’d expect from American police.

  Schools in the US have officers specifically assigned to the school. Like the officer’s full time job is to patrol the halls. They’re called School Resource Officers, and they are a large part of the prison pipeline, as their entire job is focused on getting kids into the prison system. Kids get arrested for things that could be (and previously were) handled by school discipline instead. But since school admins don’t want to deal with it, (because it would require actually making decisions on a case-by-case basis), it’s easier for them to just default to having a kid carted off to juvie by the SRO.

    Is that…true? I mean this sounds so absurd and surreal. The thought of a school(!) Having their own “police” is bizzare enough already…

      They were originally hired to stop school shootings. Hard to count the ones that didn’t happened because a kid decided not to do it cause them. But they’re have never stopped one that is happening.

    Don’t you think it’s wise to educate children on what it’s like to be incarcerated? Those camps weren’t build just to house immigrants.

  They only call the police for fist fights. If it’s a true fight, a gun one, they call CSI.

  the school police (SRO, formerly truancy officer) also try to stop you from ditching. i used to bribe mine with egg rolls.
