It has gotten so much worse in the last few months and weeks
Comment on Can we have a boring and uneventful week for a change?

It’s been like that since about 2016

I’ve been seeing this meme since 2016.
jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
I read this to the tune of cotton eye joe.
Tinidril@midwest.social 1 day ago
It’s been like that a lot longer than that. It’s just that most of the damage leading up to 2016 was under the surface and most people didn’t read their damage reports.

Like two years of the Biden admin were okay, somewhere between the height of the pandemic and the Gaza Genocide, but otherwise yeah.

49 Republicans, 48 Democrats, 2 independents in the Senate, and a House majority Republican. That just means all bills/laws made from 2023-2025 were dictated by Republicans in that time. There are a lot of terrible Democrats, but people lie to themselves that we will get laws written by Democrats during any of that time. Most people on here saying “well Biden was President” are pro authoritarian, pro fascist regimes.
Tinidril@midwest.social 1 day ago
If Democrats had absolute control, we’d still be on a slow boat to oblivion. That is no doubt an improvement over the express train we are on, but let’s not pretend the Democratic establishment has anything in mind for the future of the middle class but utter destruction.
Oh, and Congress didn’t exactly need to put a gun to Biden’s head on Palestine.
LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago
so what is it you want? Murder? Terrorism? Spell it out so we know what you are saying. Because many Democrats are stupid, doesn’t excuse you from your words
Serinus@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Disagree. Could be true with their half-ass efforts towards climate change but I think with enough Hillary Democrat control we’d basically go back to the 1990s, which right now looks like the peak of human civilization.
Personally I think we can do better. The gains in efficiency we’ve made since the 90s, and there have been a lot, should mostly be going to the people. I think we should be thinking big with projects like real mas transit and freight, reducing our reliance on semis, and more local, green energy independence. I think we can achieve a $25 (2025) , adjusted for inflation min wage WITH a 32 hour work week for everyone.
I’d like actual progress. I’ll settle for the 1990s and rule of law. Neither are close to the actual fascism of Republicans.
I’ll vote for the first in the primary, and whichever of the first two win in the general. Kind of how our democracy works currently. Yeah, ranked choice would be better but for right now I’ll settle for one more reasonably fair fptp election.

The last time Democrats had any control at all they passed the ACA.
possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
So what’s your point?
Biden was in fact president
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 day ago
Presidents were ruled above the law during his time. He could have made anything he wanted a law because he was above the restrictions of power on the president.
LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 hours ago
Presidents can’t make laws. And executive orders only apply to the executive branch. They are orders to his workers. It’s like the CEO of Coke saying “put cocaine back in product”. It didn’t make it legal for the cocaine to be in the product.

Not if you consider the deafening silence of Biden doing less than nothing to insure nobody like Trump could take office again. Or even his blinding inability to undo the BS Trump did his first term… He was basically screaming from the hills that this was going to happen again for those who could hear past the silence.

It was not Biden’s job to prosecute his political opponent, nor should it ever be a president’s job. Unlike past examples, he did not pardon Trump.
Biden did so many great things that helped people, selflessly, that it’s hard to list them all. Here is an attempt at only some of the things:
expanded overtime pay eligibility to millions
forgave $186 Billion of student loans despite constant pushback from Republican AGs and courts
increased audits for the rich, which payed for itself and more
allowed over-the-counter birth control to hit the markets
pardoned thousands of marijuana convictions, commuting 2500+ sentences
awarded $286 million for schools student mental health programs
replaced more federal vehicle fleets with all electric
expanded solar and wind power across the nation
drafted new anti-redlining predatory mortgage regulations which went into effect in January
a crackdown on hidden fees from service providers, ticket sellers, and banks
forced Chinese companies to properly report SEC Filings in order to remain publicly tradeable
expanded less carbon intensive farming practices in the USA
expanded nature conservation and national parks more than any past president, including $4 Billion for the preservation of the shrinking Colorado River
cut federal funding for career training programs which trap their students in more debt relative to their post-graduation earnings
brokered a peace deal in the Congo
strengthened alliance with Japan and South Korea over countering potential threats from China and North Korea
funded medical research for things like cancer, countering the previous cuts by Republicans
helped Class-A railroad workers to have industry-wide paid sick leave, albeit after he undercut their strike he still aided them in getting all of their demands in the following months
literally penned the first and then only AI oversight and regulation with his AI Executive Order
investigated grocery store price gouging and blocked mergers such as Krogers-Albertsons
The Respect for Marriage Act which protects gay marriage
protected LGBT+ Service Members and Veterans
signed multiple executive orders protecting lgbt+ throughout the federal government including “prevent and combat discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation” and “advance equality for LGBTQI+ individuals”
appointed the first openly LGBTQI+ Cabinet Secretary, White House Press Secretary, and White House Communications Director, the two first openly transgender people to ever be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and the first out lesbian to achieve the rank of Ambassador.

His “political opponent” attempted to overthrow the elected government of the United States, while sitting in the office of the president. What Trump did, treason isn’t even a strong enough word for.
The administrative branch, through the United States attorney general, decides which crimes or laws it pursues in applying and which ones it doesn’t. It is 100% the job of the administrative branch, The Presidency, to prosecute a former government official, especially of the outgoing administration, for treason.
And not one fucking iota of those, allegedly, “good things” Biden did matters now: Because Biden failed in his duty to prosecute Trump. And honestly, I’ll leave it for others to nitpick the absolute absurdity being extolled in that list you’ve come up with. The one that caught my eye at a glance is the bit about rail workers.
Fuck Biden. Worst president of the past 100 years (with one exception) and the man who sealed the fate on the downfall of the republic.
Tinidril@midwest.social 1 day ago
Bull fucking shit it wasn’t. The President is the chief law enforcement officer in the Federal government, and his “political opponent” was the most dangerous criminal we’ve seen in decades. Yes, it was his fucking job to make damn sure the DOJ did theirs.
MotoAsh@piefed.social 1 day ago
lol sure bud… Making sure PROVABLE unconstitutional shitpiles do not gain power isn’t in the job description… but it should be.
Have fun getting ChatGPT to puke out that list for you?
I don’t fucking care if he personally cured cancer. The fact he allowed the cancer of Trump to fester is still despicable. The fact he gave people no hope such that they wouldn’t turn to the convenient lies of Trump is despicable.
Have fun celebrating your pile of shit covered in Fabreeze. Us people out here in the real world aren’t going to be convinced by a list of intangibles.
possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
The sad reality is that he should not of run for a second term. He made it incredibly easy for Trump to look good in the debates. Harris for a lot of people was received as just another Biden.
The Democrats shouldn’t ran someone from a different entirely
