I disagree. It’s a struggle to climb up, but an easy tumble to the bottom. Becoming homeless is not difficult when you aren’t making millions on interest.
Comment on Fixed that for you

No but the original is true as well, and is better at making the point you want to make.
-
If you have a net worth of $10k, you’re $990k to go (or a 100 x multiple) to one million.

To be a millionaire again, Musk would need to be worth $778.01 billion less or worth 1/780th what he is right now.
The original message: “What many people only ever dream of achieving is so far beneath the ultra-rich it would be laughable if not for the tragedy”
Your message: “Ordinary people are poorer than elon musk” (Duh)

You don’t stop being a millionaire when you have more than one million. Thus Elon Musk is a millionaire.

no thats simply not true they’re are way more homeless people then even millionaires in the U.S.
DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 20 hours ago
The original meme says “technically”, it’s talking about numbers, that’s it. Your bias toward the embarrassed millionaire trope led you to miss the point.
TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 hours ago
It sounds like what you wanted your message to be is the people are closer to being homeless than to being a millionaire? You might need to reread your meme, because that’s not what the edit makes it say

What about what he said isn’t true ? Both things are true. And the ratio between millionaires and homeless has nothing to do with it. A millionaire is closer to being homeless than elon musk being millionaire.

- US homeless population: 770,000
- US millionaire population: 6.9 million
Stats from statista, and scrutinisable but ballpark accurate. Is 770,000 much too high? yes.
Themosthighstrange@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
its 770,000 new homeless people per year, not total. but thanks
bravot10@sh.itjust.works 19 hours ago
1/780th? You’re off by a factor of 1000 here
Ummdustry@sh.itjust.works 19 hours ago
That would be to get to a $ 1 million, but musk would cease to be a billionaire at $ 999.99 million that’s the “close” side of millionaire to him. 1/780000th would be to get into the region of a normal upper-middle class American.
