  I still value democracy, while recognizing that the US is a shitshow right now. The americans who support democracy are not in favor of what’s going on right now.

  Throwing out democracy because it’s being destroyed by a fascist in america is akin to throwing out the baby with the bath water.

  Democracy is the baby. It’s fragile and helpless on it’s own, and requires attention and active participation from adults in order to be nurtured and grow. Fascism is the pile of dog shit the baby got into when the adults left the room. The baby just needs a bath.

    I just had someone make one of those arguments. Because the west has liberal democracies, and they do a bunch of bullshit with israel, therefore liberal democracies are the problem, and seeing them fall to fascists, the same fascists doing the most of those things justifying their criticisms, is a good thing to them.

    It fails reason but what argument doesn’t nowadays, just stupid tankie shit, they just want to make cheap points not help anyone.

        The entire spirit of bickering about everything on the internet as if making some point or dunking on someone actually has some meaningful social value is exhausting regardless of the particular viewpoint being espoused. Like, yeah, if it’s dirt stupid and inherently destructive it’s worse, but I see the same sort of behavior from all sorts of different perspectives and none of it is good.

  Brexit was such a success, right? Johnson was the right choice, and you totally didn’t have a big fucking racist rally in September? Those were all from the U.S.?

        Ah, you edited. I do understand that we have huge problems too. That do NOT include marauding state-sanctioned hordes and a leader that doesn’t seem to understand he’s not a king. Just because other people have problems doesn’t mean that yours cannot be way worse and ALSO affecting everyone else because of global relations.

    The labor government is a shit show, and they’ve done more damage than the tories did already. Outlawing protest, disallowing defenses against those charges, (often like decades in prison for disfavored protests, environmental and israel and climate now but everything else soon enough,) politicians proscribing protest groups as terrorists themselves, associating any protest of that same issue as support of the proscribed group. The masterbaitorbase and age checks.

    The last the most pernicious perhaps. In effect it is them surrendering their populations to tech for a cut of the feed, identifying everyone to their accounts and everything they do, and allowing palantir companies to make social scores on their half baked formulas to be secretly used against everyones.

    I am forgetting some stuff too. But the UK is perhaps more fucked than the US, it’s in our face, they somehow think they are winning because it’s “their” guys in there right now.

    There has to be something in the water or food making us compliant, some ubiquitous pollutant(s,) some 1984 type shit.
