The speed at which they’re constructing the infrastructure for training and deploying their AI models” is what shocks Hao the most, as “this infrastructure is actually not technically necessary, and … somehow the companies have effectively convinced the public and governments that it is. And therefore there’s been a lot of complicity in allowing these companies to continue building these projects.”
Very well said.

Again! For most of the world, the US is a now malign actor again.
This is the second time I can personally remember, the first being George W. Bush’s presidency.
Before then was Reagan. Before then was Nixon.

I appreciate the correction!

This is such embarrassing reporting from The Verge. Leave it to the AI reporter to fail to understand a very basic survey I guess.
Far from a relic, Facebook remains a fixture for more than 70% of Americans.
This is literally not what the study says. The study says that 70% of people who used some type of social media used Facebook. Not 70% of Americans.
Here’s the gist of the question they asked:
% of U.S. adults who say they ever use …
People who didn’t answer weren’t included.
And, if someone used Facebook for a buy/sell/trade transaction, it’s counted as “social media” usage.
No wonder YouTube is at the top. Yikes.

Came here to make sure someone said OpenTTD! I got the original when I was about 12 in 1994 and I’ve been playing it on and off since then.

I just downloaded Burnout Paradise again and it holds up pretty well.

It’s honestly driving me crazy that people are complaining about the wording.
You posted it here consciously, it’s a “rant” community.
This is the right place for something like this! The way you worded it wasn’t really problematic. It may have been if it was in a different community, but people are expecting lot from a rant.

I guess I don’t subscribe to the meme communities
Same. But I do subscribe to a lot of technical communities where the cm0002 collective reposts, and that can get annoying.
I just don’t get where this vitriol comes from about it.
It’s actually really easy to understand. You said so yourself: ban evasion is annoying.
We are in a “rant” community. The original poster seems annoyed.
You don’t have to understand it at all.
Like, why come to a rant community and be sarcastic and condescending? The ranting is why they’re here.

just constantly stealing other people’s content
That’s what bothers me.
The constant reposts have made it more difficult to find the original content. At the very least put where it’s from in the body or something so I can look there

If it came on suddenly after taking the medication? Yeah. Absolutely. That’s actually what doctors are relying on, is being informed when things change.
I have literally gone to the doctor and asked if my embarrassing side effect could be because of a medication. It was, so I stopped taking that medication.
