Nothing says “I love the values of Star Trek” like shutting out anyone who thinks differently than you.

I think it’s important to consider other points of view thoughtfully, and question your base assumptions. Sometimes, constructive and argumentative discussion can help with that, assuming both parties are informed and respectful.
Now, how often have you seen a disagreement in the comments section where both parties are informed, respectful, and working constructively to really understand the underlying issues?
Sometimes, it’s best to just walk away, and blocklists are an excellent way to do so.

They had that whole Neutral Zone to keep the Romulan/.world/.ml/your-least-favorite-instance people at bay that didn’t share those lofty values. Those values also included letting civilizations be wiped out if they hadn’t made it to space fast enough.
Sometimes you get the Tamarians, sometimes you get the Pakled, and sometimes you get the Borg.

That’s not at all what the Neutral Zone is for.
It’s a negotiated border preventing all out physical war.
The Romulans weren’t merely speaking ideas the Federation doesn’t want to hear.

I think the analogy still applies. There are loads of people who I interact with who say things I don’t want to hear/profound disagree with. The block list includes people with whom it doesn’t feel viable to have a discussion with without things descending into flames.

Life isn’t an endless grind or a thing to be beaten. If I think something’s annoying I’ll disappear it from my feed.
I’m not obligated to waste my limited time on earth with frustrating and ultimately irrelevant strangers on the internet.

It certainly was all of that, until humanity “beat” nature.
