Comment on YSK: Almost every single new logo you see is ai slop
zeropointone@lemmy.world 4 days ago
To be fair: Logo slop has been the standard for decades long before AI, with graphic designers being forced to create it (The client is always right, especially if the client is an idiot who doesn’t know anything about design). This becomes obvious when you look at the evolution of brand logos.

TBF, if they had an idea about design, specifically about typo and logos they’d not be clients. Idiots… that’s a different topic, but let’s agree that some types with a strictly technical or -worse- strictly economical background have quite bizarre ideas in the visual field. It really get annoying if they’re perfectly sure they know better than you.

There are clients who are smart enough to know what they want but who still let you do your job because you’re doing something they can’t. Very rare but it’s wonderful to work with them.

I’ve noticed quite a few other companies following suit now as well. It’s tiring.

Look at the Aperature logo in Portal. Quite prophetic, isn’t it?

“I know! Let’s make our logo the first letter of our product! It’ll make for a great app icon especially, because they’ll easily recognize that sharp logo”
(I have 18 apps with a monogram logo icon)

Minimalist style boring and feel repetitive, since all of major companies use the same style over and over again. Yikes
b_tr3e@feddit.org 3 days ago
Could be worse. Imagine the same slop in a more baroque style…
