My new rent portal is one of these sites. Can’t just not pay rent because I don’t like chromium browsers.
BeNotAfraid@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Rent portal? You mean bank account with direct debit and/or electronic transfer. What is a rent portal? How can you possibly benefit from having a website just to act as a middle man to collect your personal info?
JandroDelSol@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Ah yes, because you get to choose how your landlord collects rent.
atrielienz@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Because not everyone has a bank account. Some people get paid via a cash card or similar (as an alternative to paper checks or direct deposit if they don’t have a bank account). This allows them to pay in alternate ways. But additionally all trouble calls/maintenance requests are done through that same portal. I signed my lease through it.

Doesnt always work like that.

Just use edge, it’s chrome based. Or any other chrome based browsers that aren’t google chrome?
rozodru@lemmy.world 10 months ago
well this is just silly advice. that’s like saying “Don’t use Chrome, use Vivaldi” it’s all chromium thus it will also disable uBlock.
Get off ALL chromium based browsers. I loved Vivaldi but I haven’t used it in well over a year. Switch to FF or a Fork of it like Floorp OR if you’re like me and don’t like Mozilla use QuteBrowser and never have to worry about anything ever again.
ClydapusGotwald@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Well some haven’t disabled ublock yet. So it isn’t that silly if chrome based is what they need to run for certain sites. Just use something that is based off it and isn’t stoping ublock yet.

I bet those sites will play nice if you switch user-agents.
winkerjadams@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 months ago
Is there an easy way to do this? I tried it for YouTube cause they slow Firefox down to a crawl but it didn’t seem to do anything. Maybe the extension I downloaded was at fault but I couldn’t find an easy way to just do it in Firefox without an extension.
ohshit604@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
Firefox has user-agent switcher extensions, alternatively you can use invidious to get around YouTube’s bullshit.
I host a public Invidious instance for folks with a Canadian IP - inv.halstead.host
samus12345@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
Then you use Chrome for sites that require it and Firefox for everything else.

Precisely what I do
