- Comment on Microsoft still can't convince folks to upgrade to Windows 11 3 days ago:
Have the not learned anything? In 30 years of windows releases???
To get customers to upgrade, they have to release Windows 12. We only upgrade every other major version, because every other major version is terrible. Including W11.

Diesels that run CNG/Prop run it WITH the Diesel as an additive/power boost/starter aid. It is not a replacement fuel.
Propane/CNG injection is done through the intake manifold, not the injectors/fuel system. A diesel cannot and will not run solely on sparkable fuel.
- Comment on ✅✅✅ 1 week ago:
Old mechanical injection diesels use the same principles of physics as the new ones do, just with electronic timing and fuel injection. I mean, the engine may on this stuff at least once. For some length of time. You can also do pretty much anything at least once. It’s the consequences that are the issue. You’re just doing the damage slower by diluting the fuel that doesn’t belong.

- Comment on ✅✅✅ 1 week ago:
No they won’t, unless they’re built with a gasoline based engine, which almost no one orders, because the mileage to fuel ratio, cost, and power are terrible for OTR hauls.
Diesels will run on lots of less refined oils using only the heat of compression, like kerosene and fuel oil, as well as being able to run on their own oil (diesel runaway). However CNG, Propane, Gasoline, and other commonly sparked fuels will, in very short order, catastrophically destroy your diesel engine because they detonate at much lower compression than diesels require.
Furthermore, you’d ruin your high pressure fuel pump as gasoline doesn’t have the required lubricity. The injectors would probably be fine, but your pump and your cylinders/pistons/crank/rods/mains would be having extremely bad days.

I’ve used jeweler’s eye loupes for extensive periods. They’re not terrible to hold in place unless you’re sweaty. If it’s too small it can become hard, but it generally rests in your eye well and is held in with friction rather than muscles. I do have a set that clip to my glasses now, which I need as I’ve gotten older. Those are easy.
People who only need correction in one eye get glasses with a prescription in one eye, and a plano lens in the other, which is just a clear lens with no correction or adjustments.

- Comment on I'm "use NFS forfilesharing old." what's the current optimal solution for shared drives if I have like 3 linux machines in the house? 2 weeks ago:
TrueNas is pretty top notch and offers a variety of storage and protocol options. If you’re at all familiar with Linux style OS, it should be pretty easy to work with. Setting up storage comes with a little bit of a learning curve, but it’s not too bad. This SAN/NAS OS is polished, performant, and extensible. If you’re not planning on using SMB or Samba, you can most certainly use NFS, or iSCSI if that’s your thing.

There are a number of collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy alternative types of media. It was an experience listening to music on tape and hearing the hiss of the tape. It has a different sound to it, sort of like vinyl.
If there’s money to be made, they’ll find ways to get it. If that means selling tapes, they’ll sell tapes again. Records are still back in style and being mass produced again.

It’s all about what works best for the particular individual. The majority of people want some hand-holding, and that’s ok. Not everyone is into designing their own hotends or completely rebuilding stock printers into monsters :)
- Comment on Hot take: 3D printing toys kinda sucks 1 month ago:
TBH I prefer the older machines, I stay away from the proprietary all-in-one stuff. I’m all about modularity, and usually means keeping parts and processes standard between builds for production’s sake.
- Comment on Hot take: 3D printing toys kinda sucks 1 month ago:
My fleet of ender 3’s have upgraded themselves all to direct drive linear rail dual z, etc. but they’ve also been instrumental in creating dummy and temp parts to build multiple CNC machines, which then are used to make their own final parts. It’s wild what you can do!

I can count on one hand how many “toys” I’ve printed. I have printed thousands of useful/needed items, though. That tool is indispensable to me. It’s crazy how far prototyping tech has come.

- Comment on My reason for wanting HomeAssistant and a locked down VLAN... 2 months ago:
My house has manual windows, manual locks, and a dumb garage door controller… because I work in IT.
I do have a few smart appliances (environment reporting) but they are only allowed on the banishment VLAN so they don’t get to interact with any single appliance inside my network. All they see is internet and nothing else.

Nah, this would have been ~30 years ago. Film and development was expensive so we didn’t just take pictures of everything. Certainly not something as inconsequential (at the time) as undershirts or underwear. I wish I had an example leftover.
