Fuck FedEx. Whenever a signature is required, they won’t let me have the package held for pickup anywhere, so I get door tags… even if I’m sitting on the couch watching TV. Called them and they said they don’t require the drivers to knock or ring. I only figured out after a ton of aggravation that if you get three door tags, they will hold the package for pickup for a few days anyway (even though they say they can’t due to “shipper restrictions”).

There are still people out there who believe everybody should still stay home due to covid. These services aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
- Comment on Firefox to become first mobile browser to support desktop extensions later this year 1 year ago:
It’s sad to say, but the current restrictions on iOS are likely to be one of the last things holding Chrome/Blink back from total dominance. It’s already the default on Android, and it’s installed on most computers. So if a real Chrome ever shows up for iOS, web devs won’t have any reason to test on Safari anymore. They’ll tell their visitors to just download Chrome if it doesn’t work on their iPhone or iPad.

Remember when different browsers used to have different rendering engines?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Hah you beat me to it. That’s why I said “spiritual,” because it’s still Chromium under the hood.
- Comment on Here we go again 1 year ago:
The enshittification of Opera sucks… I used to like them when they had their own Presto rendering engine. I heard Vivaldi is the spiritual successor, but it, too, is based on Chromium.

I stand corrected, but that still doesn’t lead me to believe they really want mobile apps to take off on the platform.

I was one of the first batch of beta testers, but being required to join another instance to use the current version of Artemis is not something I’m willing to do at this time.
- Comment on On the future of Lemmy vs reddit 1 year ago:
Yes, there are apps for Tildes, but there isn’t an actual API for developers to use, and the owners of Tildes don’t seem to want them around. I’ve read in multiple places that they believe mobile apps go against everything they stand for.
- Comment on On the future of Lemmy vs reddit 1 year ago:
I definitely think having mobile apps is an essential step. I was looking at alternative platforms such as Raddle.me but using a mobile browser was an extra hurdle (similar to using the official Reddit app) that kept me from regularly checking in.
I agree. Some of the alternatives to Reddit are vehemently against mobile apps (ahem, tildes), so I doubt those will ever take off. Not everybody sits in front of a computer all day. But I think some of those don’t actually want a big userbase, which seems counterproductive for a forum, but whatever.
Lack of an API is what’s keeping me from using kbin, honestly. I know they’re working on it, but Lemmy already had an API long before the Reddit protests started.

- Comment on Threads Has Lost More Than 80% of Its Daily Active Users 1 year ago:
I agree. I am friends with a few artists on there, and we used to chat through DMs, but now Elon is rate limiting DMs, so we’ve had to move the chats elsewhere. How the hell is it supposed to be an “everything app” if you can’t even send text chats to your friends on the platform? This guy is utterly incompetent, so of course spez wanted to copy him I guess.
- Comment on Threads Has Lost More Than 80% of Its Daily Active Users 1 year ago:
Forget the privacy concerns. The issue with Threads is that it’s very unfinished. They assumed the rate limiting was going to be the dumbest thing Elon was going to do, and they rushed it out the door long before it was ready.
It might still succeed, but you only get one chance at a first impression.
- Comment on The Reddit Protest Is Finally Over. Reddit Won. 1 year ago:
I’d be surprised if they could. They’re copying Elon, after all.
- Comment on The Reddit Protest Is Finally Over. Reddit Won. 1 year ago:
So did I. The only people who claim Reddit “won” are falling for the survivorship bias. Most of us who actually cared are long gone.
- Comment on The Reddit Protest Is Finally Over. Reddit Won. 1 year ago:
Did they win, though? Everybody who actually cared left. It was clear in June that they were going to do whatever the hell they wanted to regardless of what anyone did or said.
- Comment on Brands that don't buy enough Twitter ads will lose verification 1 year ago:
Because he knows nobody is going to want to buy more ad space on a site that is (or at least was) restricting how many posts users can scroll through.
- Comment on I've noticed that lemmy as a whole is much more leftist than reddit (outside of political servers of course) 1 year ago:
I agree. I don’t take sides at all because everybody raises a valid point.
But damn, I brought up that I didn’t take either side on a thread in another community and was blasted by people who are convinced that I support Trump being a rapist and bailing out billionaires because I said I didn’t like Biden either, and they act like I’m lying about my views because the only possible reason someone wouldn’t like a Democrat is if they are kissing Trump’s ass. It’s ridiculous. People pick Team Red or Team Blue in the States and refuse to listen to the other side.

Yup. I just don’t understand why so many people defend this garbage.
- Comment on Say goodbye to the name Twitter’s Bird. Elon Musk changing Twitter logo to ‘X’ 1 year ago:
You’re not kidding…
Because it IS broken. This is how he fixes it. People still associate Twitter with the censoring platform it was under Jack Dorsey. He needs to get new subscribers and promote it as a freer platform than it was before. This makes sense.
How the hell is it a “freer platform” if you will need to pay up to send DMs to your friends, and even paid users are limited in how many tweets and comments they can view? I am convinced Elon and Spez are actively trying to kill their platforms at this point, and the bootlickers are just delusional.
