According to their Wikipedia, Techdirt only accepted money from Charles Koch’s foundation for a lawsuit (amongst other donors), and are owned by Floor64.
Floor 64’s website only has 2 people listed in their management team, but I couldn’t dig up if either are linked to the Koch’s (I was pretty cursory about it though).

Related question: are Kindle Unlimited books digital only? Can you not buy physical copies of it?
Ngl I still buy physical books, and I use my ereader to check out ebooks from the library and/or sail the high seas.

As long as Kobo supports epub, I think it’s fine. They still support my H20 Aura from 2015, I’m not complaining.

I have a 2015 Rav 4 that’s just on the cusp. It has built in GPS/Infotainment unit that has buttons, and needs to be updated by going to the Toyota website, downloading the software updates onto a USB, and then plugging the USB into the car’s port.
Honestly it’s the perfect level of tech for me. Sure the built-in maps are a bit outdated now, but I don’t need cellular service to navigate around, and I have infotainment and climate buttons on my steering wheel as well as the dashboard.
Praying it lasts another 10 years.

Part of the Tiktok algo is already released on Github. I’m hoping instead of selling they actually make everything open.

This is from my former coworker who’s father was approached as an investor for Bytedance, so grain of salt.
But apparently the current CEO of Bytedance, Shou Zi Chew, interned at Meta and offered Zuckerberg a chance to invest into Bytedance in 2013 when he was gathering investors (assuming they’d be the American arm of the multinational). Zuck refused, saying that he didn’t think short form video is going to go anywhere, and basically laughed Zi Chew out of the room.
Fast forward to 2024, and Meta is spending the most money lobbying to get Tiktok to sell to a US company, with Meta trying to argue that they have the best infrastructure to “manage the technology” and data from Tiktok, Capcut, Lemon8, etc.
If all of this is true, I would also say “Fuck You” to Mark Cuckerberg and shut down the servers too. I mean, why the hell else am I on Lemmy if not for a CEO saying I can’t have my app?

I should have guessed you’d be a gaming connoisseur and already had played AW1 just based on your daily posts (which I enjoy daily too btw).
But playing Alan Wake 1+DLCs more than twice? Damn, you’re not a lake, you’re an ocean 😭

IMO, assomeone who played Alan Wake 1 back to back with Alan Wake 2…don’t do it, AW2 as a game feels sooooo much better in every aspect. Unless your tolerance for jank is really high, the difference in the gunplay alone feels like you’re using two different skillsets.
Well…AW2 didn’t completely get rid of the jank, just made it a smoother part of the gameplay lol.
Also the story of 2 is really heavily related to the ending of AW1, you might just spoil yourself for a big part of the mystery.
