I know whatever musicians were playing that faster track put countless hours into learning to play their style, but so does every other professional musician. That to me sounds like complete garbage, just as I’m sure slower lyrical music sounds like garbage to you.
Different kinds of musicians spend their time improving different aspects of their playing. Some of it you will appreciate, and some you won’t. You don’t have to be an elitist about it and pretend your favorite genre is the only one that requires any skill to perform well. Most people simply don’t care how fast you can play those technical passages that are so distorted they sound like white noise to the average person. They would rather perfect their tone and style.

I don’t know what happens to the wings of that specific aircraft when they collide with that specific building under those specific conditions at 460 knots. That’s a question for an expert on the subject, not random people on the internet.
- Comment on Why were so many people believers in the conspiracy that 9/11 was an inside job 2 months ago:
Yes, you are a nobody when it comes to investigating plane crashes based off images and video of the wreckage. Saving footage doesn’t make you an expert somehow.
- Comment on Why were so many people believers in the conspiracy that 9/11 was an inside job 2 months ago:
Countless incorrect things were announced. Everyone was collectively panicking. That’s odd, but it doesn’t necessarily mean anything considering the building was already visibly damaged.

I hadn’t heard about any of this until now so I looked it up and I’m still pretty confused. Were people seriously harassing the dev just because of problems with the emulator? That’s the only reasoning I can find and I don’t understand how anyone can care that much about something so inconsequential.

I interpreted the “stricter” definition as just being more intense. Like its only used to describe someone who reads constantly, and knows nearly everything about literature. Or someone who is almost obsessively studying math, or chess theory. Or someone who is very interested in numerous “nerdy” things.
Maybe that’s not what they meant, I’m not sure. You’re right, their wording is kind of ambiguous.
- Comment on [deleted] 8 months ago:
I don’t think they mean it to be negative. I assumed they mean its used more loosely now and has lost some of the meaning it used to have as a result. They can’t find a more fitting word for what they want to say, so they just specify they mean the stricter definition of the word nerd.
- Comment on A metric tonne (1000 kg) should be called a megagram (1 Mg). 8 months ago:
with metric you don’t have „larger or smaller units“. You have one unit and you scale it to your needs.
That’s the same thing, the units are just proportional.
It’s not like we have „the meter“ and „the centimeter“ and have no clue what’s in between.
I know, its just easier to say a foot than 30 centimeters. That’s why I use it in casual conversation, and not in anything important.
There’s absolutely nothing more convenient about having multiple units for the same physical property.
That’s not the part I’m saying is convenient.
Again: There’s nothing more or less precise about metric or imperial.
They can both be used to measure things precisely, but metric is more convenient in those situations usually. If I need to accurately measure something, I would use metric because the advantages of imperial are probably not applicable. If I’m just estimating and it doesn’t matter much, I’ll probably use imperial because I won’t have to do any conversions with that number, or anything else imperial struggles with.
Oh, I definitely had other people tell me imperial is „more human“ because a foot is the size of your foot and an inch is the size of the tip of your thumb.
Those people are wrong.
- Comment on A metric tonne (1000 kg) should be called a megagram (1 Mg). 8 months ago:
Yes YOU don’t do that. Because you can’t.
I won’t argue that, its a flawed measurement system. My goal isn’t to show you why imperial is so much better than metric, because its obviously not. That doesn’t mean imperial is never useful though.
There’s nothing „more useful“ about either a foot or a meter.
They can both do the same job, but its more convenient to have smaller units depending on what you’re measuring. I find the size of a foot to be convenient for measuring things in casual situations where accuracy and precision aren’t priorities.
Your foot btw most likely is not as long as a „foot“, and a small woman’s size is easily 20% off. And no, that’s not „in the ballpark“.
We don’t literally measure it with our feet, that’s just what its called.
- Comment on A metric tonne (1000 kg) should be called a megagram (1 Mg). 8 months ago:
It is true that no one ever does that though. That doesn’t mean its not a problem, but I’ve never seen anyone do it. If you need to do something like that and you have a brain, you use metric. Just because its flawed doesn’t mean imperial should be completely abolished though. What needs to stop is people thinking imperial is better than metric somehow. Aside from that, its just a weird flawed measurement system.
- Comment on A metric tonne (1000 kg) should be called a megagram (1 Mg). 8 months ago:
They are right, no one ever does that. Their reasoning for the imperial system being practical is stupid though. The reason it can be practical is that its useful to have a unit the size of a foot sometimes. Metric is better in general, but there are aspects of the imperial system I would miss if I switched entirely. I just use imperial in casual conversation and metric for anything important.

I’m starting to think there might be a reason some people assumed I was a racist redneck when I argued why I like small towns more than cities. Is that seriously what its like in some places? Here you will see the occasional truck covered in trump stickers but that’s pretty much it. There’s plenty of different cultures and views here. Not as much as a city of course, but that’s as expected.
- Comment on More of a uniform than a costume. 9 months ago:
You clearly have no frame of reference for the infrastructure in a town of this size. You can’t just tell me what’s in my town, I’m the one that lives here, I know what’s in it. My hospital is more than capable of handling serious injuries. It is exceedingly rare that anyone needs to travel to a city for medical care.
I suppose we have different definitions of rural, but the way you worded it sounded like you think my town is mostly empty long stretches of road with the occasional gas station. Its unclear to me exactly what you think my town is, but the speed limits here are about the same as any city, and you never have to drive very far to get anywhere in town.
I’ve been to places similar to what you think my town is, and I’m more than willing to admit their faults, but its not like that everywhere and you are clearly demonstrating your ignorance on the subject by acting like you know better than me what’s in my town.
- Comment on More of a uniform than a costume. 9 months ago:
I’m not talking about a rural area, I’m talking about a town. You don’t go high speeds inside a town regardless of the size of the town. Its not like every building is miles away from the next one. This isn’t the middle of nowhere, we have a hospital.

I haven’t been to every city, but if it doesn’t have a good alternative to cars, its probably not a pleasant place to be. The reason I say american cities is because I’ve been to a lot of cities here so I have personal experience with them.
- Comment on More of a uniform than a costume. 9 months ago:
The traffic is the main problem to me. It is just so, so much worse than where I live. I was exagerrating which people didn’t seem to understand, but it makes it an unpleasant experience to visit most cities here.
- Comment on More of a uniform than a costume. 9 months ago:
The scary part is that driving is so chaotic in american cities. I drive a lot and its still awful to me. Even if you ignore how much less safe it is than a small town, it takes ages to get anywhere; and of course you can’t walk anywhere either because its all designed for cars. It is absolutely a nightmare compared to where I live.
