- Comment on New Star Trek Action Figure Line Coming From Nacelle 1 month ago:
the fact that this is the worst-merchandised franchise in the world is incredibly annoying
I can’t agree with this more. It’s insane the disparity between ST merch and Star Wars merch. It’s like Trek stuff is always the “Wish version” of what the people behind Star Wars are putting out. Lego is a good example, they’ve put out hundreds of Star Wars sets over decades while Star Trek is relegated to the shitty knockoff Lego-clone companies who think they can charge as much as Lego for what they offer.
- Comment on How come LED Light Bulbs only last for about 2-3 Years? 1 month ago:
I just buy a cheap jumbo pack from Amazon. They’re like 15 bucks and last for years which is good enough for me.
- Comment on How come LED Light Bulbs only last for about 2-3 Years? 1 month ago:
Generally because you’re buying cheaper ones that aren’t built as well. Heat destroys LEDs and the cheap bulbs generally use fewer individual LEDs running at higher power to produce a given output in lumens. More expensive bulbs use more LEDs at lower power to achieve the same light output so that they’re not constantly being overdriven and last much longer.
- Comment on Sony announces the PS5 Pro with a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscaling 2 months ago:
I dunno I haven’t really been excited for any of the games released over the last couple years. It seems like nothing but legacy games like COD/Battlefield/Destiny and a few gems like Elden Ring. Most of these big studios seem to be laying off employees or shutting down instead of releasing new games. Part of this is just me being burnt out on gaming, but with so many studios struggling, it seems like it’s more than just me feeling like this.
- Comment on Sony announces the PS5 Pro with a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscaling 2 months ago:
One major improvement with the PS5 is the instant loading times. I don’t think this thing will be any faster in that regard but it’s a major improvement over the PS4. The other improvement over my original PS4 is that it doesn’t sound like a jet engine after 20 minutes of running.
Ray tracing is cool but what console games are even using it at this point? It’s like them advertising “8K capable” as if anyone gives a shit about that during a time that 4k is just barely becoming the standard for most.
- Comment on Hollywood and Netflix Report Piracy Threats to the EU, Call for 'Intermediary' Action 2 months ago:
Remember when Netflix first started raising prices claiming it was all going to go toward new content that people would be excited for? That was years ago now and we’ve seen additional increases, along with ads, and blocking account sharing and their content still sucks for the most part.
- Comment on Tesla driver who killed 2 people while using autopilot must pay $23,000 in restitution without having to serve any jail time 11 months ago:
FSD is an entirely separate thing. Autopilot is just an LKAS system, or adaptive cruise control.
- Comment on Do any of y'all know where I can get a retro box? 11 months ago:
You don’t need an 8GB Pi for gaming. Most of these run on a 1GB Pi3
- Comment on Do any of y'all know where I can get a retro box? 11 months ago:
It’d be less than half the price to buy a Raspberry Pi 4 and you can even get a custom case.

A law banning Bill Gates gate scandals would be called: Bill Gates gate-gate bill.
- Comment on Tesla driver who killed 2 people while using autopilot must pay $23,000 in restitution without having to serve any jail time 11 months ago:
Yep, just like “cruise control” made tons of people drive their car into the ocean thinking they could sail it to popular island destinations.
- Comment on Tesla driver who killed 2 people while using autopilot must pay $23,000 in restitution without having to serve any jail time 11 months ago:
To probably 90% of people “autopilot” means “drive automatically”.
Based on what?
- Comment on Tesla driver who killed 2 people while using autopilot must pay $23,000 in restitution without having to serve any jail time 11 months ago:
Full Self Driving and Autopilot are two totally separate systems.

Isn’t that the default location when you first install? I remember always having to move it back to the top where it belongs.
- Comment on It's almost impossible to deny being an alcoholic without sounding like an alcoholic 11 months ago:
That’s all fine and dandy until you get court ordered to attend these meetings as if it were a scientifically proven method of quitting drinking. It’d be like doing something bad and then being court ordered to attend church so that you can “gain a moral compass.”
- Comment on Apple’s MacBook Pro memory problem is worse than ever 11 months ago:
They desolder components and reuse them or they scrap old laptops and scavenge the good bits like the screen and keyboard? Assuming someone brings in a laptop with a bad hard drive, what components later get disassembled?

Curious what was the model of your drive failure? I have 6 years now on a bunch of 8TB WD Elements/EasyStore drives as well as some WD MyBook and refurbished WD drives from serverpartdeals in the preceding years. Still no failures yet but I’m expecting one eventually.
- Comment on how much backing up would you do of a media server? 11 months ago:
I’m currently running mine on Windows and use SnapRAID and DrivePool as my defense against drive failures. I think I have 7 data drives and 2 parity at this point. Beyond that I copy the Snapraid whatchamacallit to a separate backup drive along with my OS drive. This isn’t really a ‘backup’ but in the scenario where I have several failures and no way to restore, I still have radarr/sonarr keeping track of my library and a membership to several private trackers. I wouldn’t worry too much about losing media files as most can just be downloaded again. I find it more beneficial to make use of all the storage space you can rather than trying to do a 1:1 backup, which gets pretty absurd once you start getting up there in movie/TV count.

Pretty sure this stuff already exists in some form. /r/datahoarder people would probably be able to steer you in the right direction though you may need to lay out several thousand for enough HDDs to hold it.

- Comment on Twitch allowing more nudity after disproportionately banning female streamers | Twitch confirmed its policy banning nudity was sexist. 11 months ago:
I don’t think people care about the nudity as much as they care about the intent behind the nudity. Streamers seem to be edging as close to the line of porn as they can in order to gain views and money. This isn’t someone simply walking around a beach without a top on.
I don’t care if people want to fingerbang or jack themselves on cam while playing Zelda, but don’t fucking blend it in and recommend it to people on a site specifically designed for children. That’s what turns it from “someone seeking it out on their own” (as with the availability of porn on the rest of the internet) to “let’s shove it in your face to boost our quarterly profits during an economic slump.” People can claim that this all should be prevented by rules and tags but let’s be real people are going to do whatever they can to skirt the rules and standout from the crowd and no human being is actually going to be moderating any of this just like with YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or any other similar site.
- Comment on Apple’s MacBook Pro memory problem is worse than ever 11 months ago:
Well that’s not very “green” coming from a company who stopped supplying customers with chargers “because of the environment.” When a hard drive craps out the only solution is to replace the entire board rather than a single part with an industry standard connector?

That’s literally the exact same amount I’m paying Comcast in suburbia. The speed it a little bit better most of the time but it’s not like I can make full use of it.

Plus the fact that Starlink is actually serving these people already.
- Comment on Ford's CEO says he definitely didn't pay for that viral video of a stuck Cybertruck needing a rescue on a snowy hill 11 months ago:
Based on the older video of the CT failing to climb a rocky/dirt hill, I’d say they have a lot of work to do on their power distribution/traction control systems. Thankfully since it’s all controlled with electric motors and not a traditional transmission/transfer case/solid axle setup, it should be able to be fixed or mitigated with OTA updates.
