- Comment on Microsoft PC Manager App 'Repairs' Your System by Making Bing the Search Default 8 hours ago:
So tired of companies telling me they know what I want more than I do. It’s all over the place in big ways like this and smaller annoyance ways too. My work mac just did a security update and it decided to change my desktop background
- Comment on Getting into Civ 6 6 days ago:
6 also has a really bad habit of trying to hide a lot of stuff away from you for idk why, cleaner aesthetics? In 5 almost all the numbers are there out in the open ready to be looked at in-game and it makes approaching everything much easier for me
- Comment on Prime Video subs will soon see ads for Amazon products when they hit pause 1 week ago:
What do you mean “end”? As long as capitalism is guiding the ship it can’t end the line has to go up
- Comment on [OC] I (For real) remastered all of Starcraft's Terran themes. What game music should I remaster next? 2 weeks ago:
The original XCOM soundtrack slapped and I’m curious what a remaster would be like
- Comment on Why people are boycotting Asus all of a sudden? Asus outrage explained 2 weeks ago:
I have a 14 year old gigabyte motherboard in my older computer. When I first got it I didn’t know what I was doing and plugged the wrong thing in somewhere and blew up a component on it. As long as I don’t use that slot it chugs along just fine. I wish companies would just keep making things that last I’d gladly pay a fairly steep premium for that. Instead it seems every company that gets known for making good stuff decides to shit all over themselves

Gotcha, WiFi is a bunch of tiny pianists in a box

When I’m dreaming the architecture has a lot of features like this. Check out images of Jiufen in Taiwan for some next level stairs
- Comment on Old advice, but good advice. 4 weeks ago:
We had an apple tree in my backyard as a kid. One of the bored afternoon things we’d do is throw apples of varying levels of decay at each other. Sometimes sticks were involved to try and hit them away, or turn them into mush-splosions if you got a really rotten one thrown at you
- Comment on Microsoft’s VASA-1 can deepfake a person with one photo and one audio track 4 weeks ago:
These vids are just off enough that I think doing a bunch of mushrooms and watching them would be a deeply haunting experience

Translate is giving me some weirdness, but it appears to be like “working to the rule/regulation”?
- Comment on Insects and Other Animals Have Consciousness, Experts Declare | Quanta Magazine 4 weeks ago:
Octopuses are so wildly smart I can’t imagine them not being conscious. Of all the animals we should not be eating they’re one of the big ones. I’m convinced if they have the chance (over like an evolutionary amount of years) they could develop past being solitary and set up rudimentary societies

Jokes on them I’m so depressed I don’t even try to work in bed I just lay there doing nothing
- Comment on Meta thinks it's a good idea for students to wear Quest headsets in class 4 weeks ago:
I work with headsets for work. It takes me 5-10 minutes of basic interaction to get wildly motion sick, 10-20 minutes for headaches to start, if I have to wear one for more than 30 minutes that’s the only task I can do all day
They are heavy, can take a while to charge, often don’t last long on that charge, they get hot, people who need glasses are still an afterthought for a lot of the designs
What a potato of a tool to try and force into schools. The tech isn’t there yet and a lot of humans, like me, get physically sick when interfacing with them. Also what even is the use case they’re hoping to do better at than a bunch of laptops or tablets?
- Comment on I bought frozen BBQ eel and the best before date says LJ349. What does this mean? 4 weeks ago:
You don’t even have to leave it on the counter sometimes. I had a steak a bit ago in the freezer, thawed it, smell test, it had gone bad. Best guess is some point in the store or transit it got stored improperly and it was bad before it got to my freezer. Always check even if in the expiration date food poisoning is awful

- Comment on Google One is shutting down its VPN feature later this year 5 weeks ago:
Yeah they didn’t really need to advertise it specifically. It’s a core part of a lot of their other tools

I wish my work laptop could last 4-8 hours… It dies after one hour on the dot, always has even new. I get about 5 minutes between the low battery alert and it shutting off
- Comment on How climate change could affect the microbes that ferment grapes and give wine its specific flavors 5 weeks ago:
Talking with a chef I know apparently some cheese types are already at risk. They said we’ve been over-cloning certain strands of bacteria and they don’t have enough genetic diversity anymore. I never thought we’d manage to fuck up germs too…
Needing particles for swiss cheese is fascinating. I wonder if there is a market for having smaller holes to better pack cheese in large containers for mass production?
- Comment on How climate change could affect the microbes that ferment grapes and give wine its specific flavors 5 weeks ago:
This is probably also affecting a lot of region specific cured and fermented foods. Cheeses, cured meat, even sour kraut and kimchi, could all be slowly changing.

As a side note it’s incredible how many posts I see you in
Anyway I mostly watch pretty tame stuff I just like seeing people being affectionate with each other. The one I was in included sitting in cakes and eating ass and was decidedly not very tame. Cake has so much butter and oil in it getting all that off the floor after took some work
